Speeding up my optimus without doing a custom rom

Hello all, im new to androids but ive rooted my phone with z4root for all those cool apps and now im looking to speed up my phone.. I really want all that sprint junk removed from my phone but i dont really wanna install a new rom because i dont fully understand everything and cant afford to brick my phone.. so any tips or tricks on making my phone faster without a custom rom.. if not.. is there a tool like z4root that will install a rom for me or am i completely out of luck on increasing speed without thunderom? thanks for all the help.

You can flash these files and get the same effect! There is also "SetCPU, although I'm not sure if it will work with z4root.

Awesome, much thanks. I actually found an idiot proof guide that allowed me to root recover and rom my phone without a pc. So im up and running thunderom now. Thanks for the help tho!!
