Sprint $10 'premium data' to apply to ALL new smartphones

Same Here

One big advantage with Sprint is the Any Mobile Anytime... I have 4 lines and we only use approximately 200 minutes of calling that can be charged to our monthly allotment of 1500 minutes...

Same here, I have five phones, sharing the 1500 everything data plan. We rarely rack up anything over 750 minutes per month, total. I still receive 25% foundation plan, so we end up right around $201 a month for five phones, unlimited everything except for minutes.

Negative. There is no 5GB anything in the fine print. The rhetoric used is something along the lines of if you used too much data while roaming, you can have your data roaming privileges revoked until the next billing cycle.

Ah, that makes more sense. :-! Cool thanks for setting that straight. I've had the plan now for only a month and a half, but only used ~330 MB last month and only up to 40MB this month (about 1/4 the way thru)... Don't think I'l have to worry about it either way. ;-)

So here we are again not happy with sprint. So fine its the same monthly as T-Mobile and still cheaper than Verizon so now they better come out with some super fly phones or there is no point. I got this phone to avoid the 4g cost I now have 5 days left to try and come up with a couple hundred$ plus an hour drive to try and switch this phone foe the who shift. The question is should I do it. The second line on my phone is upgraded in 2 months and the sprint Guy I talked to said that will put both the phones on the premium rate so its save 20$ or take the optimus for a year and save the money for a 4g phone up front. Hmmmmm what to do

I called Sprint and complained and said I was going to drop there service and not pay then a dime, after all that they decided to give me a $10 monthly credit for 24 months to get me to stay. I took it for now, lol, plus with the free airvana at $99 and $4.95 a month and with my evo rooted I get the WiFi tendering for free saving $30 for a total of $45 savings a month, I can't complain now. Have 1500 share plan with evo and opt s

Thank you for contacting Sprint regarding new price plans.

The new plans includes free America Roaming. If you use your phone out
of Sprint Coverage, your account is not billed for the roaming charges.

There is a usage limit of data and voice on roaming network:

(1) voice: 800 min. or a majority of minutes
(2) data: 300 megabytes or a majority of kilobytes

While on roaming network, text messages are not free. There is a
default charge of $0.20/msg while on roaming network.

I assume that means that data/voice will be cut off (so that you're not billed, and since he didn't list additional charges) if you exceed those limits. Don't like the text message cost though :(

EDIT: Roommate brought up a good point, they may be doing this in preparation for their big announcement everyone was going on about last week D:

Man... I am glad I already had my plans renewed.

I have the family plan with 3 phones and won't get that extra $10 charge til the end of 2012.

I am so glad I upgraded to the Optimus from the Lotus earlier this month. Wont have to worry about this until next year now. By then I will be ready for 4g/WiMax/LTE or whatever the industry decides to settle on calling the higher bandwidth connection speeds.

Wow, I just activated my Optimus I bought yesterday. I should be in the clear right?

Yeah. Although it seems with all this bull**** from Sprint, you might want to look at T-Mobile if possible. Better phones (Nexus S, anyone?), and less bull****.

33% data plan increase

I am paying 30/mo more for data. Went from 39.99 voice plan to 69.99/mo data plan. The 'new' 33% increase in data cost is really not reasonable.

Their press release makes it sound like OMG, people are buying and using our products at an unprecedented rate. So we are simplifying our plans and will charge you more for the same service level.

It is crap people. I certainly use more data with a smartphone. Used zero with the voice plan of course and the 30/mo was paying for 3G. Now it costs 40/mo? Too often I get 1x signal, and it is not a 'rich' experience like sprint spins it.

Not ranting at the OP. He made a good point.

So I know many of us went with this phone because it is the best 3G phone out there right now (for sprint). The 3G saved us from paying the $10 tax that Evo and 4G phones are subject to. Well looks like ALL "new smartphone activations" will be paying this TAX!

Exactly. We have two Androids on our plans and we use 300-500 mb of date a month COMBINED. This $10 a month is us paying for data that we don't even use.

And don't even get me started on them ripping our Premier qualifications away from us on one line. Total garbage.

Just so you know, buying a different "smart" device without renewing your contract and only swapping the ESN as service will still get you the 10$ add.

This is such bullcrap. Sprint is just doing this because no one wants to pay the pointless 4G tax, which they're counting on to expand their 4G network. For the quality of service I get from Sprint (currently), what I pay barely meets the service I receive. Pushing the cost higher without any quality increase is not acceptable. I think we should do some type of boycott about this.

This kinda ruins Sprint's reputation as one of the cheapest plan rates provider :(
I think I'll be satisfied with my Optimus S for the next two years and by then I'm sure I'll be getting myself a 4G phone in which I would pay the $10 anyways so this doesn't affect me at all.
