Sprint 2.1 leak

I did option 2 and noticed a couple of small things that bother me, one more than the other ...

1) I cant link my contacts from "people" to their respective Facebook profiles. I have Facebook setup, and when i check my updates, sure enough i have updates from people (it isn't showing pictures though) BUT i cannot link a contact to Facebook (people / select user / Menu / Link) This is driving me freaking NUTS! I've checked to make sure "sync contacts" is checked under Accounts & Sync/Facebook for HTC Sense. I've clicked Sync and it completes but still i get nothing.

2) This issue, although less annoying, is when I'm typing, lets say a text message, sometimes when i hit a key i get a good solid vibrate (haptic feedback) while other times the vibration is so faint its barely noticeable.

Anybody have anything for the first issue? I know it seems trivial but id probably go back to 1.5 if i cant figure this darn thing out as 99% of my 200+ contacts are synced with FB.

Hey Gbhil -- did you find any bugs in the newer version you're running? curious to know if that new build is just optimized or includes any new tangible items. thank yous to yourself, rufflez, and beezy for all the info i have gotten from y'all.

a warning to anyone using mybackup pro. DO NOT USE IT TO RESTORE YOUR CONTACTS IN 2.1!! you will get an error about too many contacts deleted and that is fine in 1.5, but when you try in 2.1 to get google to try and sync back up -- it won't. i got, using several installs, FCs with process.gapps. it also then prevents your contacts from syncing with facebook.

Well Well Well .... I just noticed this. I did use mybackup to sync the contacts, no errors, it actually worked like a champ, but im having the FB problem now. Well **** on me!!!!

Any ideas how to export off the phone (so i can re-flash) then how to import back?

ok, what is the radio version that is included with this? i downloaded one from flipz & i am having horrible luck w/ my airave

HTC sync? dunno. Are your contacts google contacts? They shouldn't have needed to be backed up if they were. You lose ringtones, but those can be applied afterwards.

Nah, my contacts aren't synced with Google which is why I chose to use mybackup. Mybackup has some other cool stuff too like backup and restore bookmarks, system settings ... stuff like that.

Noticed another issue with this ROM too, unless you go to a mobile page, it looks TERRIBLE in the browser!

I started getting the audio issues with option 2. Couldn't use the phone or anything ...no sound and no Mic.

Did the audio fix that was posted few pages back and that seems to work.

Since then I upgraded the SD card, partitioned it, wiped devlik only and flashed to option 3. Flashed all the fixes again. Had to fix a couple icon issues but phone is working great right now. Keyboard issue even cleared from 2 to 3.

some things to consider:
1. This flashes a new radio, hboot, everything. You'll probably never ever be able to root your phone once you do this.
2. If for some crazy reason the official Sprint 2.1 release uses an older version of hboot or the boot image, you won't be able to install it. Ever.
3. You will NOT be able to roll back to 1.5 if you wanted to. Again, never ever.
4. A few things in the market won't work. Most paid and protected apps show up just fine, but not all. This may be permanent.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

I already put the test release on there and now I am a bit freaked out after reading this. Can you elaborate on how bad I just f@%#ed up? Will I be able to switch to the official version when it comes out? Will there ever be a way to root? Ect Ect.

UPDATE:
Found the fix, was just in a panic

Not sure if it's a big deal, but the failure I did get in trying to reload option 3 was as follows:

E: Failure, error at line 387, aborting.

What exactly does this mean? I made the ext2 partition. Do I need to run the "move app/dalv to SD" in recovery?

BTW, upgrade your EXT2 to EXT3 via the same menu. This will prevent errors later from improper unmounting because EXT3 is journaled. As long as you are partition properly, you don't need to do anything else.

Ok i think all my problems are solved ...

1) The Facebook issue i experienced i dont think has anything to do with Mybackup. As i previously stated i didn't get any errors like UT got so this didn't make sense to me for being the problem. After reading the millions of posts on XDA I think theres a memory problem with the Sprint 2.1 that impacts FB. The 2 solutions i found were to either wait, in some cases it took people days to finally have FB 100% synced and be able to link contacts, or download something from the market called minfree and use that to adjust stuff which fixes the problem. I didnt feel like going the minfree route so after waiting all night, I can now link my contacts all the way up to the letter "D". I suppose in a week or so I'll be able to link all my contacts.

2) The issue with the keyboard haptic feedback inconsistencies was fixed by flashing Damagecontrol 2.07.2. I didn't get around to trying Jerry's #3 so that might also fix the problem.

3) My complaint about the browser was fixed by opening the browser, going into settings, and un-checking the "overview" option.

I am really happy with 2.1 now that i got these things out of the way.

I get it occassionally in option 3... but it doesn't bother me. I didn't notice it until you brought it up yesterday.

First off, great work! I would never have tried this without a guide. Thank you.

I installed option 3. It's running much faster than the stock rom. I'm having a few cosmetic issues though. The HTC clock widget on the main screen isn't loading.

Also, my menu looks like the old 1.5 menu, not like this:

Did I bork my install? Would re-flashing fix the 2 issues?

Thanks again guys!

Edit - I just realized I'm missing quite a few HTC apps. I don't have the calendar either. I do have: Mail, Music, People, and Photo Album & Frame. That's it though. All the rest are Android widgets.

because you didnt wipe before installing the leak 2.1.Start all over again wipe then flash the leak again.

Have you actually experienced the errors with EXT2. I have read in other areas of "the intertubes" that these issues arent really a problem with SD card partitions and that SD card partitions dont really need journaled. Reliability issues aside the EXT2 is faster then EXT3 or EXT4.

If I do change to EXT3 using recovery will it format the whole card again?

thanks for your help rufflez! I am completely new to phone hacking however I am an electronics tech by trade so I am fairly comfortable with researching a gadget enough to figuring out a way to let the smoke out of it.:D

Yeah, its called internal memory widget in the market

Also, if you are having problems with HTC widgets like the clock widget, do this:
Use a file manager like linda file manager (free in the market)
open my phone
say ok to the warning that you can bork your phone
tap system
tap app
scroll down to htcclockwidget.apk and reinstall
exit and go back to the home screen
long press and add the widget.
