Sprint 2.1 leak

Have you actually experienced the errors with EXT2. I have read in other areas of "the intertubes" that these issues arent really a problem with SD card partitions and that SD card partitions dont really need journaled. Reliability issues aside the EXT2 is faster then EXT3 or EXT4.

If I do change to EXT3 using recovery will it format the whole card again?

thanks for your help rufflez! I am completely new to phone hacking however I am an electronics tech by trade so I am fairly comfortable with researching a gadget enough to figuring out a way to let the smoke out of it.:D

I don't think it would format the card again.... I would back it up in case. I have heard of people who screwed up the partition and it got corrupted.

Thanks bnob.

The leak actually is rooted. It's an engineering leak, so root can work his magic- but only from the adb shell.
When I'm feeling a bit better I'll work up a nice little how-to for people who did run the RUU to use the command line and get back some things like a custom recovery or a "correct" root+busybox. The warnings are valid though. You're taking a small gamble by using the leak as-is, which is why I wanted to get some other options out there for people to experience the "official" 2.1 without any ROM cookers customizations.
Hey gbhil, how about that tutorial for us poor noob bastards that flashed that RUU. Thanks

Hey guys, don't mean to be annoying, but just want to make sure that my question didn't get lost in the forum. Anybody have any ideas why the 2.1 ROMs are slowing my phone down so much?

I'm sorry, unfortunately I don't know why it would be slowing down your phone. Is the sync circle on top always on? This could be a facebook sync problem if it is.

Was just going to ask this.

Try rebooting the device, and checking that you accounts sync then sync shuts down.

Also, try using alerts and notifications from the system vs the sd card

if either of these helps, say so and we can go from there.

solved - issue with HTC widgets

because you didnt wipe before installing the leak 2.1.Start all over again wipe then flash the leak again.[/QUOTE]

I did all 4 wipes in the recovery thingy... hmm.

Also, if you are having problems with HTC widgets like the clock widget, do this:
Use a file manager like linda file manager (free in the market)
open my phone
say ok to the warning that you can bork your phone
tap system
tap app
scroll down to htcclockwidget.apk and reinstall
exit and go back to the home screen
long press and add the widget.

Whatever the cause, this did the trick. I reinstalled just the widgets and they work.

Seriously, thanks again for all your work on this rufflez, gbhil, and anyone else involved. Amazingly easy and now I actually like using my phone!

Yes, just go into recovery and flash the zip. Haven't had any problems since.

Also I moved from option 2 to option 3 without doing any wipes at all, believe it or not.

I also then moved from 3 to live papers without a single wipe.

But... going from live papers back to 3 I did get some error messages. I did a dalvik wipe and tried flashing option 3 again and I've been fine ever since.

(I had, stupidly, forgotten to make a nandroid backup before going to live papers).

now to figure out how to revert back. come to find out the issue was caused by forgetting to switch a PM to AM in Timerrific :(

I have a backup, just not sure if it was before or after I installed everything..... (i.e. Battle.net Mobile Authenticator).

Another question...
Looks like 2.1 doesn't allow you to force roam. I'm in small town with only the slow network on Sprint. Does anyone know of an app or hack that will force the phone to roam as with 1.5?

I don't like how when I do WIPE in recovery I get those errors and it says to do it from adp. Is there a way fix this?

Do i need to install the 1.5 RUU and reinstall recovery 1.5.2?

Can someone tell me how to fix this?

It's due to the recovery image you are using. They are just false errors. You can try pushing the 1.5.2 recovery image from the how to root your sprint hero thread.

Thanks for the replies. The sync circle is not there generally, but my phone seemed unable to pull all of the profile pics from FB (about half of the people who's name started with "A" had pictures, that's it), so maybe FB syncing is off?

I'm not sure what you mean about alerts and notifications from the system, but I haven't got A2SD running, if it has anything to do with that.

Rebooting typically does help a bit, but over time (usually a couple of hours), the lag always returns. I was also wondering if it could have something to do with the gumbo.sh file; I tried to edit it, but didn't see the tags like in the one for Gumbo 1.5c (i.e: msm7k, ondemand, performance) I know that you said that setcpu was no longer needed in 2.1; does that also eliminate the need for this function in the script? The reason I ask is because I wanted to change the script to a higher setting, and see if that helped.

Thanks again for your help guys!

there are times when i HAVE TO use an app killer. my phone will just clock and the app killer cures it right away.

with your FB issue it sounds similar to something someone a few pages back was experiencing, but i wonder if it's anything like my data connection seeming to just fail after short periods. the darn thing just quits and i have to switch to wifi or switch the mobile data on and off. or off and on.

Ok I want to try the whole rooting thing but I have a few questions first.

I'm probably going to go with option two when I do it. After I root the phone and all those things, how do you install the 2.1 part?

When the official update comes out would I still be able to get that update (would I have to go back to 1.5, then update again)?

If I simply just wanted to try 2.1 and then go back to 1.5, how would I do that??

Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

need a little help here:
I'm trying option 2 and use the file "signed-CL157175_1.zip"

1)downloaded file: signed-CL157175_1.zip
2)mounted the sprint hero and copied the file signed-CL157175_1.zip to the root
3)shutdown the phone
4)boot up phone holding down the vol down and hit the power button
5)I'm in the the HBOOT menu where you get three options
<VOL UP> for fastboot mode
<Back> simlock
<home> recovery
6) I hit the home key for recovery

now i get a large icon with the triangle with the exclamation point on it. it's sitting there for about 10 minutes and nothing is happening. What next?

Did you root your phone?

After you root your phone make a nadroid backup of 1.5. Then flash whatever rom you want,If you don't like it you can then restore the nadroid backup of 1.5

Lost super user privileges?

I rooted and installed option three, everything going well. I tried to run "root explorer" only to realize I had lost super user privileges. Is there is a way of getting it back in 2.1 w/o having to reflash the ROM? I think I might have made a mistake by not installing busybox??? Any ideas?
