Sprint 2.1 leak

I rooted and installed option three, everything going well. I tried to run "root explorer" only to realize I had lost super user privileges. Is there is a way of getting it back in 2.1 w/o having to reflash the ROM? I think I might have made a mistake by not installing busybox??? Any ideas?

Option 3 has busybox installed. Look here

grab the superuser fix, make sure USB debugging is on

OK,

Even with stock minfree settings

echo "1536,3072,4096,5120,5632,6144" > /sys/module/lowmemorykiller/parameters/minfree

I'm still not getting any joy with the Facebook Sync....

:(

It's hosed. No better way to say it. You can even renice the sync process so that the system can never kill it off and it's the same. Gonna take forever to sync even a short list and might not sync at all.

I have a "business" (hate to use that word in a sentence with FB lol) FB account that has a big contact list. It never syncs.

I have one I made for testing with about 20 contacts. Syncs in a couple of HOURS.

Minor issue to me, but a keywords: GIANT GLARING HORRIBLE BUG WITH HTC FACEBOOK SYNC and keywords: HTC NEEDS TO FIX HTC SYNC BEFORE THE FINAL RELEASE OF 2.1

I think I know what the bug is. It's copying people like 4-5 times on my phone and I just watched my internal memory go from 70mb used to 115mb in the first day. Killed the sync and it went down after I deleted my account from the phone. When I tried to link someone in the people app, it had like 5 copies of each person. Hadn't even made it to p after days

I'm getting the same thing with the multiple copies of people when I try to sync facebook users (those whose names being with a-d have the most copies). I was able to make it sync fb connects faster though by using a wireless connection instead of 3g

ghil - thnx for the su hint - missed that

Kudos and much thanx to gbhil and rufflez.

gbhil - updated my phone with your option #2 ROM - working great, definitely faster!! Thanks for the link about rooting - I looked at it to double check and realized I had rooted it but hadn't done any nandroid backup stuff. Took care of that - had a problem at first but realized it was because my SD was too full.

rufflez - much thanx for the step-by-step you provided in the stock 1.5 to custom 2.1 thread. It worked per-fect-ly for me first time, no issues. Now to install the wireless tether you provided.

What is the browser option to view pages in overview??

in browser press menu/more. Then press settings, scroll down. Should say open pages in overview.check or uncheck. Restart browser to take effect.

see, seeeeeee. i was having that weird issue just trying to get my contacts to sync with teh Google. except i had cleared all my google contacts and was trying to get it to sync and back up. it kept stopping on Dad and putting him in 5 times, at least. the weird thing is i have not experienced this problem after installing the ROM after the umpteenth time.

edit:
actually, come to think of it -- i was using wifi the last time it successfully sync'd my FB contacts. it started slow with just mobile, but on wifi it filled right up. or maybe it is just in my head.

look at the file for some reason it gets renamed to recovery-RA-heroc-v152.img (without the periods in 1.5.2)

Hey all,

Somewhat new to this rooting jazz I guess. I've been rooted and running Fresh 1.1 for the last month or so. I used the prekitchen for my rooting. I want to switch over to the new 2.1 leak here, but I'm a little confused.

Can I make a backup, then flash the 2.1 over Fresh? Or do I have to go back to stock, then flash 2.1? And if I go back to stock, wouldn't that unroot me? That was something I was always a little confused about. lol

Thanks!!

Your good. Just make a backup of Fresh 1.1. You must WIPE everything (especially if you're running Apps 2 SD). Just make sure you pick either option 2 or 3 from the first post in this thread. Once you're rooted, you're ready to go. Holler if you get stuck.

Advice: Put both the ROM and the market fix on the sd card. Flash the market enabler immediately after you flash the ROM, then reboot. First time you boot up the phone in 2.1, go to the market and redownload what you got after you get setup. The market will post your downloaded apps from the last time you had been activated. If you reboot, this record disappears. Your apps are located in the downloaded section BUT AREN'T downloaded, you must redownload/install.

Make your backup and flash option 2 or option 3 from recovery.

Make sure to wipe all data. If you're using an older version of recovery, ignore the errors when wiping dalvik cache and boot cache.
If you're using apps2SD be sure to wipe your ext partition as well.
In short, you're going to have to start from scratch. Titanium backup helps alot here.

Since you're used to a custom ROM, I suggest you try option 3 from the first post.

I think I may have fixed my facebook syncing issue. Maybe it can help someone else.

I went to facebook (like on my desktop), then to application settings (pulled down drop menu and selected "authorized")

I found that I had two instances of facebook for htc sense (it will probably just say htc sense) and two instances of facebook for android. I deleted all of these (even though I dont really use the facebook for android and I dont think it does anything extra but I deleted it just in case). It was pulling my contacts twice and that's why I was seeing three and sometimes four of the same facebook contact.

I then deleted my facebook account under the "accounts and sync" option on the phone, rebooted the phone and made sure there were no synced facebook contacts and then added facebook for HTC sense back and simply waited and it synced all of my contacts in maybe 10 to 15 minutes.

Hopefully this helps some folks.

Yeah, this is utter BS. Totally knackered.

Thanks for the tip. I've attempted this, but I've had no luck resyncing back on my Hero...

This plain sucks.

What's even more ridiculous about this is that it's synced my contact card with my facebook picture, and ignored everyone else....

Is the issue with the market that when you search for certain apps, they arent there?..I was searching for the internal memory widget that someone on here asked about and I cant find it.

Any help would be appreciated
