Sprint 2.1 leak

Option 3 wouldn't take up more room.Gumbo isn't a app it's a custom memory management.(makes phone better):D. Also i put together a slimmed down version here. http://forum.androidcentral.com/htc-hero-roms-hacks/9895-2-1-lite-option-4-a.html

Your version sounds great, but I use the Tv occasionally and the Sprint Navigation. I may choose to use some of the others as well (footprints, amazon mp3) but doubt I ever will.

What exactly can be done with Gumbo? Is there a post explaining it? When I do a search, for some things I get a lot of threads that I have to sift through and wish I had the time for that.

I don't know why I can't install the drivers I need to use commands to make changes. My computer thinks it can't find them. Ugg, dunno what I did wrong.

i can help with the drivers thing

Gumbo 3 generally runs faster due to stringent memory settings to reduce lag.
Gumbo 3 also has busybox, which gives you the opportunity to install apps onto the sd card which saves internal memory space. I can also help you remove just things you don't want (like maybe Nascar WOO!)

Thank you, I am about to flash option 3. First I will backup my SD card info. I am beginning to wish I had a bigger SD card. Mine is 4 gb.

I am so glad you can help me get rid of the sprintware. I dont use nascar, nfl, stocks, peep, talk, and, teeter. I don't know if I will ever sign up for twitter so who knows if I will ever use apps for it. There is another I don't know what it is, and that is footprints. I will have to check it out to see if I want it.

Also I am glad you can help me with the drivers issue. My computer did it fine to root my phone.

For drivers, download PDA net for your phone, then the windows client to the SD card and install it from the SD card (its for tethering, but we aren't going to run it). It'll install drivers at one point that SHOULD work

If it doesn't:
Install the new droid eris HTC sync software. It'll take some time, you'll need to reboot. You also have to make sure HTC isn't running before trying to do ADB commands. Here is the link for the Droid eris sync software.HTC Mobile Phone Support - DROID ERIS by HTC (Verizon) - Downloads

Once you get
Code:
cd c:\android-sdk-windows\tools\
adb devices

to show your serial number, make sure USB debugging is on (should give you a triangle and exclamation point when connected to PC), try the
Code:
adb remount
adb shell
rm /system/app/WHATEVER APP IS CALLED.apk

The nascar one is Sprint_Nscar.apk
Test that out and see what it gets you.

I saw somewhere, but can't recall where something about verifying the app2sdcard is working. How do I do that? When I install apps I am still seeing my phone memory go down about the same amount as the size of the app installed.

I finally went with option 3. I wiped everything first, and partitioned my sd card first and other instructions I was given.

Do this-?Open a terminal and issue the following commands:
◦adb shell
◦cd /data/app
◦pwd

?If it responds with ?/system/sd/app? then it?s working. If it responds with just ?/data/app? then it?s not

So Apps2SD is kinda misleading as not every part of the app gets sent to the sd card. That has changed, but hasn't really been incorporated in but a few ROMs. You're still going to see some loss of space with higher app amounts, but it should be less than if you hadn't

Thanks to Beezy, Rufflez, Gbhil, and Spj. You guys have been very very helpful. I think my phone is doing ok now, but I am sure I will have questions again soon.

So far I can't get my battery widget, and sprite backup working. Once I have other questions I will post them because someone may have the same issue.

The HTC battery widget won't work :/ I miss it, too

n00b question/temporary redirect.

First - i'm using option 3 and LOVING it!!!
Second - could someone explain what dalvik is, and when I would need to wipe it (I never have, through probably 20 ROMs/reloads)

or use this updated app2sd Apps2SD version 2.5 - xda-developers and all apps will be in your sdk card i had about 110mb used it went down to 24mb...:D

Some questions...can I flash this right over option 3 of this thread even though it has apps2sd already? I don't know which version of apps2sd was used with option 3 but it doesn't seem to work for me. Only 41megs available.

Also is there another name for option 3 like a ROM name. Option 3 isn't really a name I can use to tell people on other forums which ROM I am using.

well, I'm currently using gil sprint leak option 3.With the new updated apps2sd 2.5.Before i did any updates i backed up all mobile apps and did a nandroid backup too. Then i ran the update it took about 3 mins before it went to the main screen i only had about two force close i just restore the app and everything was gravy. before the upgrade i had 110mb of used and it went down to 24mb leaving me enough room for future apps.

The other name i guess can be used is sprint leak 2.1 customized i would used that according to the folder description.

hope that helps:)

Thanks for the info. I did a nand backup and then flashed the apps2sd 2.5 over my option 3 install. It Hung on boot for over 30 minutes before I pulled the battery. It booted the 2nd time and I went for 41 megs to 110 megs. Now that's more like it!
A few apps not working at first with some forced closes.

i decided to install this over option 3 and yes i had 27 mbs free and now i have 115! sweet. as Barleysoda said my phone hung for awhile and i pulled the battery. However after that it sat on the 1st HTC screen. i pulled the battery again, then re-applied the update, on the next boot it came up in about 5-10 minutes.

Now that my apps are on my SD card, my task manager doesn't work very well. I use advanced task killer.
It kills the apps then within a minute several apps restart again on their own. Before they wouldn't start using resources again unless I opened the app.

Finally have 2.1 on my phone, market added, apps added.......but I don't have ANY of my CONTACTS!!!!!

I think I made a mistake......I did do a nandroid backup of all my stuff, but it was when I still had 1.5, so once I moved Beezy's Option 4 onto my SD Card, I forgot to do a backup before I did a wipe, SD partitions, and davlik.

What do I do???

P.S. I also forgot to run APPS2SD first:mad:

If you had your contacts saved to your google account once you sign in they should load automaticly,apps2sd is automatic if you partition your sdcard. You don't have to install anything to make it work.
