Sprint announces the EVO 4G LTE

Not whining, just discussing. How is anything to ever progress unless people voice their opinions? Discussing the lack of sophistication in the design is no worse than just blindly swallowing it because its the new best thing. I refuse to somehow talk myself into liking a poor aesthetic just because it's the best phone out there for Sprint users as others have done. I may still get it, depending on Samsung's offering this year, but its most certainly not going to be because of the aesthetics.

Have you read some of these posts? It's definitely pretty in line with whining LOL

P.S Dedicate button is negative for simply because there is no wear and tear on a software camera button. Plus HTC has greatly improved the response time in tacking pictures I can see the dedicate camera button on the HTC Evo 4G LTE going out fast for some.

I will never own a phone that does not have a dedicated shutter button (on the side of the phone). I cannot count the number of instances I've wanted to hold the camera out at arms length tunred around to grab a picture of me, or us, or whatever. Not to mention the other instances where I hold the phone out away pointed to the side or something to track my kid- there is simply no way to do this kind of shooting with a soft screen button. With lenses and sensors at the level they currently are in top end smartphones you are doing yourself a disservice by not going the full 9-yards and getting a hardware shutter button so it works as a true point and shoot should.

This is the reason I still have my Optimus S. There was a rumor the GSIII was getting a hardware camera button which is looking like it's not going to pan out- so I am considering this new EVO- even though I hate Sense.

I think the more important thing to debate here, is the horrible use of ice cream sandwich buttons. I think h t c did the right thing by using hardware buttons, however google of choice of button layout is horrendous.

Kill the menu button, kill the search button, and replace it with a multi task button? Horrendous!

I use the search button more than any other button on my phone, which is now completely gone, and in ice cream sandwich the menu button seems to float around depending on the interface. Idiotic!

The search button is integrated into the apps themselves. Every single app I use has it right there and easy to use. And the menu button is always on the far right of the top or bottom action bar, depending on where the action bar actually is. You get used to it quickly, and then you realize how much more sense it makes.

^ but in order to do a google search, or more importantly, a google voice search you need to have that stupid search widget on the home screen, what a waste.

"now that we have more screen space, let's use it up with buttons"

Couldn't you just add search to the dock right above the buttons? I don't use the search button that much on my EVO 4G and on my HTC EVO View with Honeycomb it doesn't have a search button either but it has a search function on the homescreens. Like anything else, if it's a deal killer for you, that's too bad. I'm sure you can find a device that is right for you.

You're overblowing the issue. In day to day use there is no difference.

I will notice the issue every single day when I have to find the right home screen to press the search button. Also when I have to use 2 hands to pull up a menu.

I have seen some galaxy nexus modifications where you are able to put any icon you wish in the menu bar, to me they should of been default.

I am hoping I will be able to re map one of the buttons to perform an alternate function, perhaps long press on multitask to voice search.

I know I get pretty pissed when I have to use my TeleNav to get to my Home Screen...WTF lol

I think you've just hit the answer. A long press of one of the buttons should launch Google search. Best solution hands down.

looks like a real solid phone smooth quick and ICS wut more could u ask for (a betta provider?)

Then your complaining does nothing as your wallet speaks louder....

Yes, my wallet speaks so loudly ON A DISCUSSION BOARD, lol. Way to pull an old one out and try to instigate, lol.

Instigate what? You just said you will probably buy the phone. What is the point in complaining if HTC ultimately gets your money? What incentive do they have to change anything if they are still profitable on what they currently offer? I just never understood the point in complaints if you still give the company your money. You purchase holds more weight than your complaints on a DISCUSSION BOARD.

Just saying. Wasn't trying to "instigate" anything.

No, I didn't say I would probably get it, I said I may depending on samsungs offering. And again, not complaining, discussing. Not quite sure why some people here have problems differentiating the two.
The reason I said instigating is because you pulled out a two or three week old post and started throwing around "complaining" It read to me as instigation. It I'm wrong there I apologize.
