Sprint Hero 2.1 released(facts and finding/complaints)thread

Having a few problems that are really killing the other positive feelings I have for the update. Mostly the camera and map stay on after use and the battery use widget show them at or near 100% of batt usage very soon after using either. Task killers do not stop them. WTF?

After 2 hours on the land line with Sprint there sending me a refurbished Hero with 1.5 .... I'll take it.... root and go with the Developers for 2.1

Thats great news.Holla if you need help rooting.

Breezy420 I received my refurb 1.5 should I load the official 2.1 then root or just root the 1.5 on the phone now.....understand I am not familiar with this.

Hey Beezy Im back and rooted and ready to go........
I flashed the livewallpaper.zip and all went well. I can select them and everything works until i lock the phone. If I lock it for over a minute the livewallpapwer comes off and it goes back to my old wallpaper image. How do I fix this?

And If I want to change my lock screen to that of the nexus one or the motorola droid, how do I go about that?

Thanks for everything!!!

What rom are you running?

None......I just rooted it and used the ADW.Launcher and the live wallpapers worked. But they do not stick.

It would work better if you had all the files.Have you thought about flashing a custom rom?If not you can take the live wallpaper zip fromthe second post in link and push the lib file inside to system/lib/.Its a little tricky with stock rom cause it has odex files.

acuda27 if you don't want to flash a custom rom or push those files, wait til morning and ill get you a flashable zip to do it for you.

Sweet!!!!
Ya I dont know how to push files, Im new to all of this, but thanks man for going out of your way, BEEZY you rock! I will be waiting like a little kid on christmas morning lol!

Oh and what do I do with the zip that I flashed? can I undo it?
If I can keep the weather animation (like evo and incredible) it would be cool, but if not its cool. :)

And one last thing....In that link to the HoneyBun you put that the Nexus LWP works good for you.....thats the only one that doesnt load on mine lol, and its probably my favorite.

I'll be checking in tomorrow thanks again!

My hero is rooted with custom roms on it. Before I update to 2.1 should I wipe my hero back to stock settings? I'm not sure if updating from a custom rom will harm my device.

Note, I DID read through this thread before asking this. Seems like not many people do that, shocked, shocked! :)

I'm going to finally update my stock 1.5 Hero Wednesday or Thursday. I have not used HTC Sync and am a little afraid of it. I don't want it to "sync" ANYTHING in or out of the phone, just install the 2.1 Android code. I realize that this update will wipe my phone (but will keep what's on the SD card).

Can someone assure me that when I install HTC Sync, and connect my phone, it's not going to suddenly grab all my data out of the phone and try to sync it to whatever godawful Microsoft programs it finds lurking on the Windows machines I'm using? Like, right after I run HTC Sync for the first time, it goes and says "oh, I'll copy all these contacts over to Outlook for you, OK done, now how can I help you?" AARGH.

I just want to install the 2.1 code, nothing else. Google OTA sync will take care of repopulating the phone with the contacts and calendar, as I understand it.

Also, just dreaming, is there a way to install the 2.1 update without the HTC Sync program? And without rooting either, of course, I ain't touchin' that either.

Thanks!

You can try running the ruu without sync first, but you might need it for the drivers. It shouldn't sync anything unless you tell it to.Your correct about google syncs that stuff for you.Rooting isn't a bad thing,i was never going to do it,but now im trying to develop.lol.

The sync is a separate program, all you're going to be using it for is the USB-to-"Serial" driver (or something like that) which is needed for the Updater tool.

Also, you might seriously consider waiting on the 2.1 firmware. I know it's tempting, i.e., Newer Is Better, but the 2.1 firmware really does have a lot of problems. So you might want to wait for Sprint to issue the inevitable update/fix. Meanwhile, those of us who already upgraded (like me) are left to suffer with huge lag in the PHONE app, as well as in Google Maps. And the BT now tends to crash the phone. I've called Sprint to complain and they said these were all well-known issues and they're working on it...

Thanks beezy and bsmith for the responses.

bsmith, Sprint issued an incremental update a few days ago to take the phone from 2.27.651.5
to 2.27.651.6 (OTA, Settings -> About Phone > System Updates > HTC software updates).

Early comments to that article indicate that it did indeed take care of the phone lag problem. I don't use Bluetooth, and I can live with buggy/laggy Google Maps for now. I've got a whole parade of life enhancements waiting for this 2.1 upgrade, and this month is my only window to do it. So it's gonna happen :) Thanks for the warning though!
