Sprint HTC One - No LTE?!?!

Hey all,

Yesterday I upgraded from my Galaxy Nexus to the HTC One. I can honestly say I am extremely happy with my choice. This phone is pretty awesome. I do find myself very annoyed with blinkfeed but I've removed all content from it and shoved it all the way to the left. Out of sight, out of mind?

Anyway, here's my big beef. I ALWAYS have LTE when i'm on campus. I teach and take classes here so I spend a very considerable amount of time on campus. However, the HTC One does not connect to LTE here. I did some searching and read that the LTE radio in the HTC One is operating on a different spectrum than what Sprint is currently releasing. Can someone explain all this nonsense to me? And are there any definitive dates as to when this phone will actually be able to connect to LTE? I'm not settling for the "in the near future" claims again, cuz with Sprint that means years. Lastly, do we know what radios are in the S4? If the S4 can connect, I'll reluctantly return my One and get the S4.

Thanks!

Sprint LTE is still new and they are expanding their new LTE network. To my knowledge and I may be wrong so if I am please correct me their service before wasn't technically LTE. 4G maybe but not LTE. Again, I was a Verizon customer, now AT&T so I am not sure but the HTC One does have 4G LTE built in, I was connected to it last night while out at dinner. Granted different carrier but still has the ability non the less.

I came from full 4G LTE strength on Verizon to AT&T where I get 4G from HSPA+. So I feel your pain. Just hang in there, they are all expanding pretty quick to keep up with the new speeds that everyone wants.

I also do not have LTE connection on my new one where my EVO 4G LTE did connect to LTE, so far havent seen 4g on this one yet, yesterday sitting side by side in car with my fiance with her Evo, she had 4g I did not

Thanks for the prompt replies everyone.
I'll explain a little more.
Sprint has NOT launched LTE yet it NYC. however, it's been available for months now for those that have LTE devices.
I'm coming from the Galaxy Nexus (LTE device) which picked up LTE and used it well. The HTC One for whatever reason will NOT connect though.
My comment about the different LTE radios stemmed from a blog i read (cant remeber which) and my checking the specs on phonearena.com, which shows the Galaxy Nexus LTE radio operating on 1900mhz, while the HTC One operates on either 800, 1800, or 2600 mhz. I'm trying to uncover the validity behind all this.
I can't call customer service because the will just say LTE isnt in NYC yet, but I assure you i've been bumping it for a while now.
Also, if it helps, a friend of mine has the Galaxy Note 2 and he has LTE in the same areas as me. The Phoneareas.com lists the note as having an LTE radio operating at 1900mhz as well.

? LTE:
US (AT&T): 700/850/AWS/1900 MHz
US (TMO): 700/AWS MHz
US (Sprint): 1900 MHz

I am also talking about an un official LTE market here in CT, but Evo connects and One doesn't, maybe it has something to do with official release? because in his reviews I believe Phil was connected to LTE in FL which is an officially released LTE market....Maybe the broadcast band changes slightly when officially released

I had to go back to my EVO LTE because every time I picked up the One it would drop the signal. I would lose up to 20 dBm when holding it.

This is the reason that I'm reluctant to pick up the One. I currently have an iPhone 5 on Sprint and am located in Indianapolis. I was standing in the Sprint store with my iPhone in one hand and the One in the other doing a comparison between the devices. I noticed the LTE showing on the status bar of my iPhone while the status bar of the One was only showing 3G. The reps were busy with other customers so I didn't get a chance to ask about the discrepancy.

I have connected to lte here in Oregon no problem and as far as I know it's still not an official market.

Phone arena has the wrong in (surprise surprise). I confirmed the specs through HTC.com.

I'm going to go to the Sprint store soon and see if the phone is functioning properly. Maybe it's a hardware issue.

On the EVO there's an option to enable the LTE radio under settings then network I believe. Not sure if the One has the same option but if it does, it might not be enabled for whatever reason.

Edit: Settings > Mobile Data > Network Mode is where the option is.

Sprint does have multiple frequencies for their LTE network but only the 1900MHz (I wish they would call it 1.9GHz) is building out right now. All of the Sprint LTE devices being released are of that variety, though I do believe that once the other bands start being deployed we won't be able to utilize those on this device because it doesn't have the other Sprint bands.

Also, I'm assuming that your SIM card is installed and you don't have that little icon with the exclamation point in the notification bar? Probably sounds like a newb statement but this is the first Sprint device that I've ever had requiring a SIM. The EVO has a built-in SIM. We Sprint-ers don't understand all of this SIM card nonsense!

I'm having an issue too. Finally got my plan worked out, (diddn't have an lte plan), worked in the store the other day, now I can't get lte again after I rebooted. However, if I do *#*#4636#*#* and change preferred network mode to lte, I get a connection instantly. Only problem is that setting is reverting after reboot for me.

Just to clarify - without doing this change I am getting "4g" indicators but not "4g lte". Speed tests go from 4 or 5 down to around 15 so I know its just not in my head.

/edit2/ also this is for at&t.
