Damn, sorry I couldn't be more help lol.
Posted From My Sprint Nexus S 4G
Hello, were you ever able to get this resolved? I'm having the exact same issues with my new LG G2. Depending on which cell tower my phone hits, I'll either get UNKNOWN on my Caller ID (even if it's a person from my contact list) or it will actually work like it should. I called Sprint and they opened a ticket up, but I'm not very confident it will be resolved. My exchange period runs out in a couple of days and like you I don't want to be stuck with a phone where the Caller ID doesn't work most of the time (particularly now that I can get a Galaxy S4 for free). I assume it's a carrier issue, but I haven't seen anywhere on the internet where anyone has given a resolution. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks for the quick response! I assume you meant stick with the G2 at the end of your comment? I'd like to stick with the G2, but the 2 places I use my phone most often (home and at the office) I get the dreaded UNKNOWN on the Caller ID. I assume your wife's S4 doesn't have any of the Caller ID Unknown issues despite using hers in many of the same "areas" as you do? Thanks again.
I don't know if this will help with you or not (and I haven't researched enough about LTE), but one of the things I did was to change my preferred network mode from LTE/CDMA to just CDMA and my Caller ID would function correctly. When I switch it back to LTE/CDMA it goes back to showing UNKNOWN for incoming calls.
I think it will work for you. The problem is LTE/CDMA will give you faster data speeds but the Caller ID won't work (unless you're connected to an updated tower?), otherwise having your Preferred network set on only CDMA will enable the Caller ID to work but you will only have data at 3G speeds. I know Sprint is performing upgrades to their towers for the Tri-band phones, but I don't know if/when this will eventually be resolved. Again, love the phone but I have 2 days to decide to keep it or go with a Galaxy S4 (which isn't a tri-band phone).
Thanks Dan! I was on the phone with Sprint for about 90 minutes today, just trying to figure out if this issue would eventually be resolved in the near future. After being escalated to a tech, he researched and hadn't seen that this issue had ever been reported to Sprint. I explained that I knew it was happening to others, he went out and Googled and saw that there was in fact others with the same issue. He opened up a Problem Management Ticket which he said will get escalated much quicker than a "regular" ticket. Hopefully the more people that call in about this issue will help to get it resolved quicker.
I'm also having this issue on my nexus 5. When connected to lte all incoming calls are unknown. Even people in my contacts. On 3g though the Cid works just fine. Anyone know why this is? Is it network related?

It has to be. While I'm no expert, I find it hard to believe the three of us, all with tri-band phones, have defective phones.
Call Sprint Customer service and report the issue. When the CSR reviews other tickets (like the one I had them open) then maybe they will try and resolve this more quickly. The more complaints/issues people have with these new tri-band phones on Sprint's network, hopefully they will make this more of a priority to resolve.
I'd have to agree. More likely would be all the have some setting on the phone that is causing this. Similar to the crackling and housing phone calls that is fixed by turning evrc_b off.
Where is that setting located, Mikey?
No its not user error it's location problem. I traveled to the city yesterday and it worked just fine on Lte. This leads me to believe that it's a location problem with some of sprints towers.
