Sprint pushing 4G over 3D?

One of my coworkers upgraded on Friday, and the local Sprint corporate store pushed the 4G on her. According to them, the 3D was full of bugs and wasn't really much of an upgrade over the 4G.

I told her to go back in and get the 3D since it's a significant upgrade, and that it's not smart to lock yourself into a 2 year contract with year old technology.

She went back, got a different sales guy, and this one told her that they're the same phone, just that the 3D has 3D and a lower megapixel camera, so if she didn't want 3D, the 4G was better.

Is this systemic? Even an ignorant sales person knows that a $200 sale (3D) is better than a $100 sale (4G), even irrespective of specifications.

I would guess they have a ton of inventory they need to move before it becomes irrelevant.

This was a known concern before they released the 3VO. It was going to compete with the 4G. They are both good devices, however it makes common sense to go with the latest tech if you are a new customer. Just know what you want and go for it. As soon as 4G inventory diminishes, they will sing the same song they did at the 3VO's launch. I'm in sales so I can't knock them for what they are trying to accomplish.

They have to get rid of the leftovers, some people just aren't smart enough to realize that. They are both great phones, though.

Arent Evo's already discounted to $99? At least at Best Buy they are. That's the only reason I see why you'd want the OG Evo. But if they are the same price then ya thats just wrong.

I know the feeling on this. When I came over from AT&T last year to Sprint. They pushed the BB Tour 9630 on me and I was coming from the IPhone. They were practically giving them away. The EVO 4G was about 3 months away and I knew about it but I needed a phone right away. Well within my 30 days I wanted to swap the BB Tour for a Curve because the Curve had WIFI.

Sprint made it virtually impossible for me to do this. What they told me was since I bought the phone over the phone I would have to cancel my service since I was within 30 no charge. Send the BB Tour back to them. Start new service and get the BB Curve. So I was stuck with a BB Tour no WIFI for a year.

When the 3D came out I thought I was screwed because I was only due $75.00 off a new phone. But being a "Sprint Premier Member" ( I still don't know what that means) they gave me the $199.00 price on the 3D.

I can understand clearing inventory, but it's basic sales. If someone is willing to pay $200, you don't down sell them the $100 phone. If someone will spend $200, sell them that phone plus up sell accessories. If someone wants a $50 mid range phone, up sell then to the 4G.

That all depends on what they make the most profit from. That $100 EVO 4g may be making them more income than the $200 EVO 3D
