Was looking at the sprint web site and the hero was reduced to 79 with 2 year contract and no rebates. not sure if the price will stay that way but with the evo coming out soon its no surprise. i want the evo but short on cash. so looks like im getting the hero.

that i know but the $29 price is for new contract if you wanted to renew its still 99 at best buy.
looks like this is the new price for sprint. even after it was listed as the promotion ending on 5/30/10 it still is at $79 for new or renew contract.
Same at my local WalMart. Just checked today because my daughter thinks she wants one.

. oh wellI actually like places better where salesmen dont make commision (not saying I do or dont approve of walmart) because then theres no reason for them to try and push you into a sale, or up-sell you to something better(meaning more expensive)
this is true they get paid by the hour and if you buy a phone or not they still get paid.
one of the reasons i buy from sprint and not BB and RS is only cause i can get what i want and when i want it with no $. just put on my bill and ill pay it later. in the sprint store or online makes it easier for me.
I am also looking into buying a htc hero but im coming from a samsung instinct.., yes and is the very first instinct that came out. But like the other member said I'm on a budget and I think I can do $50 for it. Is the change good? thanks
The deal was still good as of yesterday. I just ordered mine by phone yesterday. Anxiously awaiting the UPS guy now.
I too thought very hard about the EVO. But ultimately decided on the hero. It's my first android device. I'm certain I will be spending a lot of time here to get to know you guys and get some much needed help.
BTW the hero was $79+tax and free next day shipping. Also they knocked $70 off my next bill. Awesome deal, I'm into the phone for a little over $16 right now and no main in rebates to deal with. And yeah, I had to reup the contract for another 2yr but, I have been with them for nearly 10 years so I'm not going anywhere. Sprint just offers superior service and pricing here in central Indiana.

How were you able to get the $70 credit? I talked to sales and customer care and some "other" dept (they never said who they'd transfered me to) and was only able to get an offer of $50 credit, which I was willing to go for, until they told me that it would be off of a $99 price for the phone, not the going rate of $79 for the phone. Hmmm... I'm definitely switching, just trying to work the best deal. Been a Sprint customer 12+ yrs and have only upgraded my phone once prior to this. Would have thought they could do a bit better.
So are you happy with the Hero? Did it arrive already upgraded to 2.1?

i got the same deal. ordered mines on sunday hmmm lets see no one was working on a weekend and monday was a holiday it was shipped out on tuesday and came in on wednesday and just been going through the apps alreday was updated to 2.1 when it came in. just waiting to see my next bill like you i should only have about $16 added total if that $70 deal kills the $150 off the phone im going to screaming at the sprint people. i been with them for about 10 years now. i love the coverage in my area and i make out on the bill better then anyone else around here with 4 phones on the plan but i always have problems every dam time i call them up. the staff at the sprint store has been good. just the ones on the phone need to know what they are doing.
