Sprint Samsung Epic 4g Official Froyo EC05 [update.zip method/Custom Odin Packages]

Satire

Sprint must have forgot to hit the switch for the update to push out before heading out to CTIA.

Sprint Bob: Hey Jim, how is the Epic update going?
Sprint Jim: The Epic had an update?
Sprint Bob: Yeah, the one you were supposed to push out.
Sprint Jim: OH ****, I knew I had to do something before packing my swim trunks.

This is probably how our update went down.

interesting.

I could write off Bluetooth and say it might be a secondary hardware issue. what gets me is the data and and location.

side note: I feel like this has been said. but has it? the Android guy looks like a Canadian from south park.

Should go without saying, everyones mileage will vary, depending on your configuration. Being an over the road trucker, I pull up TeleNav GPS Navigator, then fire up Pandora or Slacker and fire up my Moto HT820 bluetooth stereo headset and listen to music all day while driving with TeleNav running on the screen, Pandora or Slacker running in the background, with the Epic in a dash mount and hooked to a DC charger. Works great, just like with Eclair.

Only data issues I have is where there is no signal or while roaming on some networks in some areas around the country. No obvious GPS issues.

4G connects better on my Froyo Epic, than my Froyo Evo. I use the Epic more than the Evo.

The Screen orientation lag the other poster mentioned, can be fixed by turning the Epic upside down and recalibration of the screen. "Other problems" can be fixed with a hard reset.

I downloaded the update a month ago OTW to the Epic card, moved to the root directory of the card, installed it via bootloader. Did two hard resets, then did a fresh install of all my apps, installed my other data, other than Contacts and Calendar via backup.

Froyo EB13 has been working great for me.....

Still on Eclair. :-)

Although I do like froyo for app2sd capibility - overall my Elcair was absolutely PERFECT, smooth, fast, and no problems!

I only have two minor problem with froyo that I can see, and that is the call log bug and I couldn't play movie trailers in a Flixster app when I could before.

Well fwiw it doesn't look like the Transform users have gotten an update yet either. I wonder if any Tab users have.

If I play music through power amp and use telenav at the same time, my charger can't keep up. While the discharge is slower, there is still a discharge. And I would also think pandora would be a bigger draw as it is also using data.

Alright. It's been said that if you've removed any of the Sprint bloatware, you're screwed for getting the update. In my case, I'm running EB13, stock kernel, rooted, with Sprint bloatware uninstalled. I used the un-install function in Titanium Backup to remove the following -

~ Amazon MP3 1.8.32
~ NASCAR 2.2.56
~ Sprint Football Live 2.2.56
~ Sprint TV 1.0.4.32-113310
~ SprintTV Widget 1.0
~ Sprint Navigation 2.8

I do not have backups of these .apk files. That said, is there somewhere I can download them from and reinstall them? Or am I going to need to completely reinstall EB13 from the update.zip I still have, re-root, restore all my other apps from backup via Titanium, etc.

Anybody? Thanks.

When you rooted you had CWM v2.5.1.0 installed along with the rooting process correct?
In other words did you use OneClickRoot v2.5.5 to Root?

(This will determine my next course of action for you)

I used OneClickRoot, yes. Not 100% sure of the version, though.

Okay, I did run this by Ragnarokx our Moderator for Epic 4g and he said in theory it should work flashing a zip with the files your missing but he also remembers people having some issues in past updates doing this.

He recommended and I agree your best bet for a guaranteed OTA update is to Odin back to stock Froyo EB13 so you have no worries on missing the OTA update. You can't use the update.zip method, that is only going from Eclair 2.1 (DI18) to Froyo EB13.

Use procedure #1 in the link below to perform the process.

Samsung even messed up an update for windows 7 phones. This is getting ridic. It is now the beginning of day 3 and nothing yet. That evo is looking mighty fine right now

Still waiting on EC05...

I installed the EB13 from the Samsung website a few weeks back, with a couple resets to try to clear some of the issues. Here are the issue's I still have been experiencing:

1.) 4g connection says connected, but i cannot browse the web or do any up or down data transfer whatsoever.

2.) 3g data connection went to crap, very unstable and much slower than it was previously.

3.) Keyboard issues, can't type fast because it wont recognize the second letter key press sometimes. (i know there is a fix for this, but its not worth it with this supposed OTA update coming to see if it is fixed)

4.) Speaker popping sound after getting off a phone call. This happens intermittently. It takes a new call to clear the issue.

5.) when using the google search function with the on-screen keyboard, the keyboard will not disappear after clicking search and I have to exit the browser and re-enter my search, only to hope the keyboard goes away after the next new search. (VERY frustrating)

6.) MAJOR delay when rotating the screen, sometimes almost 5 seconds. I have to shake the phone sometimes to even recognize that the phone has changed orientation (I've tried calibrating this function, but that hasn't made a difference)

One can only hope with the new EC05... all of the above will go away. If the issues do not go away, BYE BYE Epic.
