Sprint Samsung Epic 4g Official Froyo EC05 [update.zip method/Custom Odin Packages]

received (and promptly deleted) the SprintID sms about two hours ago. my experience with the Epic over the last 4 months is starting to look a whole lot like what I went through with the Palm Pre. a phone with increasingly horrible battery life and no support from the manufacturer or carrier.

Ironically my wife just replaced her Pre about a month or two ago. She wanted to get the Epic, but I told her not to do so because of all the drama that's been going on. She has an EVO Shift and is much happy with it. I'm actually a little jealous because it came with 2.2 where I was still waiting for mine and it has a few more features right out the box than the Epic did.

I think it would be nice to have a separate thread JUST for people to post that they received the update.

They can put their location, time of update and status - works great or problems.

This would be more valuable to me than wading through 20 pages of wishful pleas for the update and sprint, samsung and google bashing.

I am such a noob, I don't even know if I can start a thread?

You can start a thread if you like but I don't think we really need another thread at this moment full of people saying "I don't have the update... " That is what it will turn into...

I'm still within my 30 days, don't scare me like that LOL

Rooting and adding a ROM to my epic has made me fall in love with this phone. I can change it up whenever. And battery life is great now. And I use it ALOT

Sent from my pretty dang fast Epic.

rooting and roms really do make it a fantastic phone. however it is still disappointing the lack of support it gets for normal users.

to be perfectly honest, if I were still within my 30 days, I'd bail

If I didn't root mine and make a few changes, I would probably prefer the Evo. With a custom ROM, I'll put my phone next to a stock Evo any time and it will look better, run smoother, and run faster. I know that still means that Sprint/Samsung suck and the devs deserve all the credit but the phone is a great piece of hardware. It just needs a little help in the software department.

Oh, and no text here yet.

With EB13 and running a stock (deodexed, crap removed by me) I get about 18 hours with 40% still left with my normal usage. I am indoors alot so I keep my screen at 5% brightness, which I think helps a lot... Looking forward to playing with a new update but not the Sprint ID...

There is an update.zip on xda now in the general section. You.must be on di18 though

Sent From My Evo Killer!

I've already seen the stock EC05 ROM released by Bonsai, even though its not flashable from looking at it Sprint ID doesn't look like much a chore to remove. I believe I found one extra .apk (app) and then there is two extra folders in /system that weren't there before which must have to do with Sprint ID.

I will play with sprint id just for 5 minutes to see what the fuss is. Then I well remove it.

Don't know the first thing about rooting but I'm interested. I need to really sit down and read
