That's exactly what happened. After the error message, I just rebooted and scanned the card using Astro. I searched for "update" and found update.zip.zip

If you would of read the OP, you would of saw that I stressed this renaming issue in BOLD..

3. You will need to rename the file to "update.zip" once the download is finished. If your changing the filename in Windows Explorer just rename it to "update" and NOT "update.zip" or your filename will end up "update.zip.zip" and then it won't install.

And just as I said that I think I'm getting an OTA upgrade.

I went into Update Firmware and it said there was no update. I tried a second time and I got an error, it was a connection error. Then I went back into System Updates a third time and I have a window that says "Session in Progress Please wait..." with a sipinning wheel. I did not click to update the firmware this time, the window was just there. I think I'm getting an OTA update!

Nope. It finished it's business after a couple of minutes and no joy. No froyo.

I don't know what the heck was going on...

No you have to be completely stock Eclair 2.1 (DI18) for this to work.

You can't be rooted with CWM installed, it won't flash in CWM.

You need to use the stock recovery mode.

Thanks Paul, I wipe it clean and installed the update! Know is there a way to root without CWM? and if I do root with CWM can I go back to CWM recovery to restore my backup which I made on it our is Titanium backup the way to go? How do I backup everything including my messages, contacts, etc on titanium backup.

Yes you can use your backup... Data Restore only is your safest.. Redownload your apps manually.

I live in NW Indiana. About 12:15 am local time I saw a brief notification for a second as I checked for a voicemail...then it was gone. I thought I imagined it..lol. I went to settings and upgrade android and instead of the usual..your system is up to date..there was the notification to upgrade and at the bottom a blue button "install and restart". Angels were singing!
So about five minutes later I was all set. Only played with it for a second, I did notice my ringtones are no longer how they were...BUT WHO CARES!
Finally have froyo!

No I read your post Paul. I thought you were talking about renaming it in the download pop up screen, not in the actual My Documents folder. Just a rookie mistake on my part.

I just flashed back to 2.1 after trying this. Fc on native browser. Data disconnecting. I hope it is pulled. This 2.1 runs so much smoother than any of the 2.2 versions.

How easy is it to go back to 2.1? What do you need in terms of files & software?

Is anything lost in the process of reverting back to 2.1 from 2.2?

Anyone here know if you lose your gameloft purchased games by updating the OS??? Any help would be greatly appreciated! I may have to finish these games before I update, lol!

GrooveRite I was able to successfully install EC05 on my phone. Previously installed GameLoft games and data are fine. You should probably backup your games and data beforehand in case anything happens. I used app monster to backup the programs, but I believe you have to be rooted to backup save data store on the phone. Hopefully someone more advanced can chime in here.

Just wanted to leave some notes after finishing my upgrade. Usually dont post, but everyone here has helped me with their advice and files. Hoping to return the favor. Sorry in advance if someone already covered this.

Had problems previously with the EB13 update both in the tar and .zip formats.
They would install fine, but my phone would end up with many bugs.
1. Camera would force close selecting sports mode
2. Video camera was stuck at a low frame rate
3. Force closing on programs.
4. Phone would not unlock or it would not come back on after the screen timed out.
Tried everything to get it working (hard reset, re flashing etc.). I ended up using odin to restore the phone to Eclair.

In EC05 these issues seem to be fixed. I cannot say until I use the phone more, but so far it looks good. Still have my Games and data, Gameloft ones included. Oh and the GPS can get my location to 9 feet now instead of 100.

Hoping that I will not have to downgrade to eclair again.

A bit off topic, but why is it you can go from 2.1 to 2.2 without losing your data but when you go from 2.2 back to 2.1 you lose your data?

Lucky!! I just woke up and saw an update thing in the top left notification bar and was super hyped, then clicked on it and basically it was market updates... which is unusual cause normally that only comes up when I open the market

Before I got it I dl something from the market ..went to rr came.back n there it was..its known.to trigger the update..so far so good im really.impressed so far...phone runs smoother and quiker. Cam..contacts apps all there running great..flash working good so far...only thing when u zoom in n out u get grey checker board but I can deal with that ..any ? Plz feel free t ask

All this is referring to is dragging the file to the SD card and not dragging it into a folder you have created onto the SD card. Say you open up your SD card on your computer, drag the file right there. Don't go into any other folder.

It sounds like you're trying to install 2.2. This is an easy process once you understand a little.

My simple instructions are on this page. Along with the link that's in this thread with the file. I tried to make the instructions as simple as possible because some of the others just assumed people knew what some of these terms meant. Like you are asking, the root of the SD card.

Can you move to root on phone alone. I just tried. I selected the file after renaming and long hold over it and selected move. Them I didn't pick a folder and selected move here. Now its under sd bit no folder. It did rename its self to update.zip.zip

I just long hold and renamed again.* did this to rename it the first time

Is it possible to update to EC05 directly from EB13? I manually updated to EB13 during the OTA roll out last month without wiping. I really don't want to wipe my data as it would be a pain to reinstall all my apps/data. I don't have a lot of issues right now, but I'm hoping there is a solution that prevents that.

I would just wait for the OTA in that case. Have not gotten mine yet, hopefully today.

I believe as long as you're not rooted, you should be able to get the OTA even if you manually updated previously. I am on the same boat as you actually. I have never been patient enough to wait for the OTA's so I've manually done them myself. I'm going to wait this time for the OTA since EB13 is running very well on my phone (besides the cam bug) and also see if I get the OTA. If not, I will manually do it myself as usual, lol!
