Sprint Samsung Epic 4g Official Froyo EC05 [update.zip method/Custom Odin Packages]

Yeah I'd really like to know if those of us that were updated to eb13 either OTA or via the original update.zip can use this to update to EC05.

My issue now is this is supposed to be the final day for the update to roll out and I still have no notification. If I got and try to do any of the udpates they all error out on my phone. I cannot update PRL, I cannot update firmware, I cannot update Profile.

I get this message: "An error has occurred while trying to update your (context of what I tried to update). Please try again later.

If the problem persists, please call customer care.

Error: unknown error"
i am getting the same message when clciking on update firmware, profile, PRL ....what does that mean??

the method some people mentioned a few pages back of triggering the OTA by downloading something from the market didn't work. I've downloaded three different things from the market nearly 90 minutes ago and haven't received any notification of an update.

it probably only triggers it if you are in que for it currently, connecting to the sprint network bringing it out of sleep and then it will register the update is available... I could be talking non sense :D

I dont know for sure because mine does it one day and not the other for the past few days... and either you are close to getting the update or their server is overloading, I prefer the 2nd being more likely

Speed Test

Has anyone tried comparing speed with the Froyo update vs pre-update? Quadrant test or Smartbench? Would this update affect those scores? Thanks!

Tried that a couple times. Still no update.

This happened to me as well. Now it's as if I never received the update. I am rooted, no custom ROM's and I have not removed any of the Sprint apps. I'm thinking I should just go back to factory reset and update manually.

OTA received this morning

I was on DI18 and received the OTA update this morning. Only oddity I have noticed so far is that the "Desk Home" screen no longer comes up when placing the phone in the dock. Manually running it from applications works.

I ran Quadrant just for the fun of it. I had a 926 on DI18, 1032 on EC05, but I got 1550 on EB13 deodexed (EXT4) so this is a step back. It seems almost as responsive so it is probably a step up from stock EB13 and DI18.

Manually checking through updating firmware will not get you the update unlss it has been pushed to you already

I'm on a manually updated EB13 and rooted. I read this forum for an hour and I'm alittle confused.
1: is there a manual way for me to update? (directly from EB13 to EC05)
2: if I wait for the OTA update, will I become unrooted and need to reroot?

hmmm I downloaded all the things required to manually update but it seems the OTA is starting to pick up and it should be complete tonight by midnight according to sprint...

Should I manually go for it or just wait it out another 12 hours!?!? Decisions, decisions

Just did the "Android Central Exclusive" update and it was quick easy and painless. Now to see if it solves my problems..

So far I haven't seen any problems. I'm at work so I can't dedicate all my time to trying things out but everything is smooth so far. The only problem I had was my GPS. The first time I tried using it, it took a couple minutes to connect. I haven't had a problem after that though. It's been staying connected fine.

Drekosh

Drekosh, I see that you listed Palm Pre and Epic as phones. I currently have Palm Pre but have an upgrade due at the end of the month. I am leaning heavily towards the Epic, but am also interested in the Shift. This Froyo update might have sealed the deal, but I was curious as to how happy you are with the transition from Pre to Epic? Thanks!

My two cents worth: I have a Pre an Epic and a EVO all active on sprint. The Epic the key board is great if you use it, The EVO is just plain great and the Pre I cant remove because the WebOS is still the best by far. If only an
Epic or EVO with a Webos operating system. Good luck in your journey
