Sprint Samsung Epic 4g Official Froyo EC05 [update.zip method/Custom Odin Packages]

Hi Paul,

I'm interested in this particular quote, as this is actually the route I'm considering taking (pending a EC05 deodexed version isn't out by the time I do so). Quick question, though - where can I find the OneClickRoot EXT4 package that can be run with Pre-rooted EC05, CWM 2.5 RFS w/o going back to EB13?
You can use the Odin prerooted "No Wipe" method to upgrade straight to a prerooted/EC05 Froyo with CWM 2.5.1.0 installed. You can then have your downloaded copy of any EC05 based ROM "Bonsai/midNIGHT/Syndicate" ready on your SDCARD and do the EXT4 conversion without going back to EB13. Basically just run the OneClickRoot EXT4 package and then at then end of the conversion once your back in CWM3.0.0.6 then flash the EC05 based ROM and your done.

No problem.. We have had to switch around are Rooting methods because of the constant switching of Froyo updates so things have been a little crazy for you users finding things at times. I apologize for that. Sprint has deal us a nightmare with all these changes...

Anyways the link you need is here...

EXT4 file conversion

Once you get to that thread do the following..

Start at step #2

2. Go to this thread and download "OneClickRootCWM3-EB13.zip" onto your computer, then extract it to a folder on your Windows desktop.
Then skip over to step #4 and run the process from there on out... When the process is completely finished and you get to step #7, don't flash any kernel or the kernel it has listed there... Just turn around and flash your ROM of choice that is EC05 based (Bonsai/Syndicate/midNIGHT/SuperHero's) and your should be all set.

Strange.. I just looked at my copy of the official OTA update.zip package that for Eclair DI18 to EC05 and its there..

Not doubting you but I have the official OTA package and both DI18 and EB13 have the Asphault 5 Demo in the package.

Could be that this is something you need to "setup" using the Sprint ID? I have no clue, I just know what I see on my copies of the official OTA's.

Edit: I have included a screenshot of my copy of the official OTA update from Eclair 2.1 DI18 to Froyo EC05. You can see Ashault 5 Demo is in there...

Yep, I dunno how it happened.

I double-checked with root explorer and neither the app nor the odex are there. And I looked in SDX App Remover's backup folder, thinking I removed it and don't remember, and its not there, either.

I'm not holding my breath for an OTA 2.3 before I'm ready to just buy a new phone, so I'm not that upset about missing stock apps....

Thanks ! To Paul627g , for lighting a clear path. Did rooted EC05 late last night via Odin as suggested - all data & programs seem to have come through intact. Only delay incurred was the Samsung driver seeing phone, very intermittent - even over two machines.

Took a glance at ROMS, midNIGHT says must wipe - hoping for the most stable, no lag, prefer data intact for my experience - will jump into EXT4 after a little more reading and making a 1st ROM choice.
Keep the suggestions coming !

I really feel your issues are completely hardware related. But trying other options won't hurt any. But IMO, they will just delay you from getting a working phone. 3 flashes did nothing for my phone. I believe flashing is when you reinstall the OS from the boot recovery menu and is what I was talking about when I stated hard reset. Sorry for the confusion.

Yes. He said before it was happening with eclair. That's why I've been telling him it's hardware related.

I think the sooner he gets the phone replaced, the sooner he will start to enjoy his epic.

Keith, it looks like you were right. I got a replacent Epic today; I've had it on for close to 12 hours and it hasn't crashed once. I think this may be the longest it has ever gone without locking up. I got one FC by the default messaging app and that's it.

I never had many apps installed but this time I'm taking it super slow with installing apps just to make sure there isn't a specific app that's been causing all my problems. But at this point I'm confident it was the phone itself.

Now here's the thing that might be of interest to everyone. The phone had 2.1 and I asked them to put 2.2 on it. The tech asked me if I was sure I wanted 2.2 because they've been having problems with it and a new update will be out within a month.

I told them to update the phone but it looks like another update is coming. I hope they are listening and fix the call log so it doesn't include text messages. That's the dumbest thing EVER.

I'm glad it worked out for you. You are the 4th person that I know who has fixed the same problem by replacing their Epic.

Eclair is a very stable os. If you are having those lockup/restarting problems with eclair and still have them after one data wipe and reload, you have a hardware problem. In my opinion, to continue and try to fix it with software is a waste of time.

If this is true that they are releasing yet another update for Froyo then I really don't even know where to begin... Sprint and Sammy are a joke. I think this one lies more on Sprint than Sammy. I may say heck with everything and go back and start running the leaked version of DK28 Froyo again. For something that wasn't supposed to be released it probably ended up being the best Froyo version yet!

I can't say I'm having any issues other than TWS with this update.

Just bought my Epic yesterday (Radio Shack deal), and it came with 2.1. Within 1/2 hour it asked to update to 2.2. Been using the phone non-stop for about 24 hours (except for 5 to sleep) without any hiccups, FCs, or any problems. Very fast and smooth. Loving this phone so far!

I know it is here somewhere, but I can't find it. Could someone direct me to the fix for the issue with e-mails showing incorrect subjects? I have e-mails showing one subject but when you open it, there is a different e-mail. Thanks!

Ok, I need some help, asap, please.

I just pretty much did the below and now the phone is stuck in a vibrating boot loop.

Here's what I did to get to where I am currently:

I was on the "forced EC05 OTA" (i.e. I was on EB13 but Odin'd back to DI18 to be prompted for EC05 update)

I Odin'd the No Data Loss Pre-rooted EC05, CWM 2.5RFS with No Problems

I followed the EXT4 conversion steps below.

I did not reboot but went straight for the midNight ROM on the SD card

It started installing...and now I'm in the vibrating boot loop...please help.

After doing google searches, etc. I have resorted to pulling the battery, doing the "clear the power" thing, replace the battery and booted into download mode.
Then tried to Odin back to Stock EC05 pre-rooted. I got a green pass, but it is still looping at boot up. I'm getting more than the samsung screen. It goes from Black to Samsung Screen to Sprint...

I hope this works, now, I'm going to pull the batt once again and Odin-back to DI18...This is rough. I hope I have not cause irreparable damage at this point :(

What a night! Nice way to bring in the Birthday, eh?

I'm back to EB13 it's rebooting to EC05 now...so...at this point, can anyone just tell me what I may have done wrong? Super curious.

Well, everything seems better with my new handset. However, keyboard lag is back to sucking.

My old malfunctioning handset had keyboard lag with 2.1. When I upgraded to 2.2 it was a disaster but keyboard lag was gone. The replacement phone with 2.2 is infinitely better than the old phone but the keyboard lag is as bad as ever. Very disappointing.

Hopefully the froyo refresh will address this too. Fixing the call log and keyboard lag would make me a happy camper.

having the same problem actually ... i upgraded to EC05 using Paul627g's no wipe prerooted method and everything seemed fine. then i tried to flash a new ROM using clockwork and it booted to the boot screen and won't do anything, just keeps looping back to boot screen. has anyone had success with ROMs using this upgrade kit or am i doing something wrong?

Did you do the EXT4 conversion?

I'm having problems with my mom's epic. It has been updated to EB13 via Samsung website before it got pulled. The phone is rooted for froyo and is working just fine. I can't seem to get the new update to work when I check for it in the system menu it says phones up to date. Only time it says I have an update is when updating apps it will say system update. It doesn't download anything and reboots the phone and I get the android icon with the yellow triangle. I really don't feel like wiping her phone to update this ting can anyone help me out.

Go to the thread below and you can choose the NO WIPE version, this will update, root and retain data.

[Odin-EC05] Froyo EC05 Prerooted/CWM v2.5.1.0 RFS (Odexed)

This is simply an option because for whatever reason it appears your not receiving the OTA update as you should.
