Sprint update available!!!

That's not just a hero issue, my instinct did the same thing. I dunno what the exact problem was, but I don't think it was the phone, it was a tower or a timestap issue. I drive a truck from oklahoma to california every week and it was notorious for doing the text stack around state lines, like the phone was picking off of two different towers. My texts would be time stamped with whatever the phone clock said, based on where I was at, but for some reason, the texts I recieved were always time stamped an hour forward or back, depending on whether I was on the east or west border of each state.

Every so often it would do it in the middle of the state, but it was more common within 50 miles of the various state lines. And it didn't always do it.

Have you filed a bug with google, emailed HTC tech support and Sprint tech support with that info? That's pretty damn specific and they may be interested. Maybe it can trigger someone else to realize they fit the same criteria and that could narrow down the potential reasons for it happening.

I keep getting the message "The Firmware Update could not be completed." Error Code 1012
I'm having the same issue :(

**UPDATE**
I deleted my battery widget and advanced task manager, restarted my phone and was able to get the update to work and have found, so far, a very noticeable increase in my battery life :)

No I haven't as it was never an issue long enough to concern me, but I will now.

Good news. This update is still exploitable. If you know what this means -
RUU to original OS
Run update
as2root still works
Go for it. If that's all Greek to you, wait a bit longer. Soon I'll have a decent step by step.

I am definitely awating the step by step. Not sure what RUU means because I am a rooted Android Newb but are you saying:

1. Download the update
2. Change name to update.zip and update the same way we did with Modaco 1.1 and it will work perfectly?

From most of the posts I've read after the update, awake time issues have been fixed. I've only seen a small number of people say there's isn't. I haven't updated mine yet since I've been way too busy at work, but I'm about to flash back to stock, update, then root again.

Are you rooted or stock?
If your stock, there is a way to do a more extensive reset that wipes all data (more so than factory reset in menu) Might do that and see if the update fixes it, if not might try to swap your phone with another.

What is clearall? Is that what you can use to do a more extensive wipe?

I am rooted with the Modaco ROM and do not have a way to flash back to stock. Do you have a copy of it that you can post or send me? Additionally, should we do this update if we are already rooted?

It appears as though my phone no longer recognizes my headphones when I plug them in. The phone continues to play thru the speaker. Anyone else having this issue?

You do know Modaco ROM is based on the original rom and does not contain anything from the updated firmware... you can verify this by checking your software version number. Fresh on xda has released an updated rom using the new firmware as the base but there's still some issues with it. I had to revert back to just rooted status and not use any of the custom roms... :(

Can you please post a link to the updated ROM on XDA? What are the issues with the updated ROM?

The ClearAll I have been referring to is just a theme to make the lock screen and some other widgets clear versus having the grey background. There are some screenshots in the 'Post your wallpaper/homescreen' thread.

I'll have to find the link to get the Clear themes. All you need is to be rooted, then update/install via recovery.

MoCaDo hasn't updated the rom with the new update yet. Can't use his rom with the update until he does.

RUU is the Recovery Update Utility. It's a file from HTC that 100% wipes the Hero and returns it to factory OS.
RapidShare: 1-CLICK Web hosting - Easy Filehosting

Do that and d/l and run the update, then root just like you did before. Modaco IS NOT going to work yet. I'll have a short and sweet step by step with links to the software this evening. As soon as work lets me get away for more than 5 minutes :)

Will this update work on the cellular south hero?

Nope. Boot loop and rewipe is what you'll get.

I'm still having a problem with my txts even after the update.

Curious..what type of problem?

Np Mopar. It looks like the CS Hero and VZW Eris are suing the same OS/kernel. Soon you will have your root. If nothing else, the rumored 12/11 update will show exactly HOW to flash updates to the OS without them being rejected, and will be used as a building block to get something rootable installed.

Couldn't get update- Had to hard reset

My phone wouldn't look for the update. I called HTC and they told me to call Sprint and they could push the update to me. The Sprint rep thought I was talking about the Sync update at first, and then found the ROM update. He didn't have a way to push it to me. He gave the options of:

1. Hard resetting phone or
2. Going to the Sprint store so they could load the ROM.

Number 2 seemed like a hassle, so I bit the bullet and did hard reset. Update showed up, as soon as I checked, and the phone seems to be running fine (faster than before).

Hope this helps others who can't "see" the update.

Wow downloading for me. I hope this works. is it 1.6. I'm from bb so i'm used to downloading a new os every couple days lol

I use a bb tour for work, and most of the updates were to keep up with changes in server security as their email system works differently from a traditional IMAP/POP etc.

Nonsense. The updates for any "security" in the mail servers are done on the mail servers. Updates are offered to the handsets to fix issues with the operating system, or to add new features.

RIM would become even more of a laughingstock if they had to push updates out to fix security flaws. If you are on BES at work, and getting OS updates from your admin, it is to enable new features they have enabled on the BES. If you're on BIS, the updates RIM pushes out are mostly bug fixes.

I'm glad that someone that doesn't own a hosting company is explaining to me how server security works. And when security software evolves, which would have an affect on how BB interfaces with mail servers, there is not a need to update the devices to maintain proper day-to-day functioning.

1. You're right I don't own a hosting company. I own a complete data solution center which includes hosting to folks like you that have a hosting company. You know the guy who has the servers and bandwidth that you pay to host your users? I'm just like him/her :) Of course that doesn't mean much, but since you commented.....
2. RIM sends a series of packets (plain text or HTML) that an application on the devices opens and displays. The security is NOT handled on the device, and is simply a SSL connection between device and server. The server security that's evolving, is between the servers and the outside, not between server and client. That hasn't changed in years. RIM does a great job at that, and there's no reason to change what works well.

But - I didn't mean to sound snappy. Busy trying to do too many things here and typed a quick reply. Like everyone else, RIM had me suckered for a long time. It wasn't until I installed and started to admin my own BES that I started investigating exactly WHAT rim does through BIS. The claims of high security and mail privacy are ONLY made for users running an approved BES service. Is BIS secure? Yes. Is it any more secure than other servers sending mail through SSL? No, just uses a harder to crack key.

If I offended you, I do truly apoligize, as it wasn't my intention.
