Sprint's New "Framily" (Friends and Family) Plan

After all said and done. I will be paying $40 per line ($25 per line plan with 7 Framily members, $15 for the unlimited add on with 25% Home Depot discount). Then I have an additional tablet plan for $15. Yes it is most definatly a great deal, best one I have seen in a long time. But what a pain to get it that way.

Is everyone paying the same amount? So how much is YOUR total bill (with breakdown like above)? We have two lines, unlimited, and a hotspot. We'd be able to get our daughter to join but everyone else is on Big Red.

As a T-Mobile customer I'm only buying phones also compatible with Sprint from now on. It's great to have more no contract options.

We won't have a true bill until Feb because we switched in the middle of the month. But here is what it will look like.

$25 per line Sprint Family plan with 1GB data( This is with 7 lines, 2 lines are on our account and 5 attached with Family ID)

$15 per line additional unlimited data add on ( This is with my corp discount plan is normally $20)

$22 Insurance for both phones or $11 per line

$15 Tablet data plan 2GB

Total= $117 +Tax

I signed up and did get the $15 fee waived. I will be keeping an eye on the bill to make sure the fee stays off.

I'm considering going to this new plan. I have 4 lines on my account and there are 4 other family members that have Sprint lines. So with 8 lines it will be quite a deal. The only thing is that to move to this plan you have to be upgrade eligible. All my lines received upgrades in the last 12 months. From what I read, normally in that situation you'd have to pay $15 per line extra for 12 months or until the lines become upgrade eligible (whatever comes first). However I've seen where it says for a limited time they waive that fee. If that's the case I'm going to jump on this plan. It'll save me close to $100 a month even if I sprint for the extra 3gig data option.

From the wording on their site:

Also, the data overage charge is 1.5cent a meg, which I don't think is too bad though it's obviously cheaper to buy in advance.

To be honest this plan will cost me more!!

I have 5 lines on the Everything Data 1500 plan. We share 1500 minutes with free unlimited mobile to moblie calls. We use maybe 500 min per month. Who talks much anymore with text, snapchat, facebook etc.... I also have unlimited txt and data. 5 smartphones on my acct costing me $240 per month. We each use about a gig or more of data. We also upgrade a phone every time we have another upgrade available, usually just paying $50 or less for tbe phone with discounted subsidized pricing and sales.

On Framily my monthly bill would be $275 ($35 per line x 5 plus $20 for unlimited data), $35 more than I pay now AND I have to shell out full price for phones or finance them.. basically just trading a the 2yr agreement for a phone loan with a monthly payment of $15-20. Since right now my 5 lines are under contract on my plan, with framily id still be paying monthly fees for each one too... at $15 per month per phone thats another $75 per month people dont add into the monthly cost making my new Framily plan costing a whopping $350 per month to get what I have today for $240. Sure I could shave that down to $300 instead by going with the $10 3gb data per line instead but why? I get unlimited on all lines for less currently.

I dont see this as a deal unless most or all lines use the minimun 1gb data plan or like using the same phone far longer than the already painful 2 yrs.

Even if I got 2 people to join my framily, that adds up to $225 for 5 lines with unlimited data($175 if only 3gb buy up) then add I my phone loan fees and im back up to $250-300 a month. At those prices I would rather share data on verizon and get better coverage.

This is only a beneficial plan for those that dont like the contract idea, switch carriers often, perhaps like more frequent upgrading or dont use much data so dont want to pay for unlimited. I dont fit that profile. We use a good amount of data and I only see that increasing as technology gets better, mobile phone entertainment gets better (streaming movied music tv..) data coverage gets better and faster.... before you know it that 1gb wont be nearly enough and people will need to buy up to the 3gb or unlimited data they used to have and now at a far increased cost.. I also dont mind the contract since I actually have had no issues with sprint or their coverage for 13 years. Id rather get a free phone on every line with a contract every 2 yrs then shell out $600 x 5 phones every 2 yrs.

The plan may work for some but not me im afraid.

TB

I agree this plan doesn't work for everyone.
I also have the 1500 unlimited data plan work 5 phones.
It just doesn't work for me!

Re: Sprint's New "Framily" (Friends and Family) Plan

Glad it's not just me.. many people seem to be excited about this Framily plan though.. It's an even worse deal now that I found out the 23% employee discount I get through my employer is only applied to the data buy up on the Framily plan, so my current $240 plan really only costs me about $215 after my employee discount... a far cry from the $275 + monthly phone financing charges with Framily. The employee discount would be reduced from about $25 to about $10... even less if I don't buy the $20 unlimited data buy up.

I wonder if this isn't also a tactic to try and reduce the lost revenue in employee discounts as well. Seems the discount has applied to less and less over the years. When I started with my company the discounts applied to my entire plan costs, now reduced to just the initial line/plan costs, and with Framily reduced down to applying to only the data buy up.

Just feels like Sprint is using this as a way to offer less phone discounts through eliminating phone subsidizing, and less application of employee discounts to their plans as well structuring the data separate from the unlimited plans as well. They haven't reduced their per line costs enough yet to make me consider going to purchasing phones outright or financing them. Subsidies for me are still a better deal since I use them as soon as they are availble to me when my 2yr contract is up.

T-Mobile however has it about right in their pricing after removing their subsidy charges in the plan pricing. Their plan rates are great. For 5 lines w/unlimited data, the cost would only be $210, and I bet I could knock $20-30 off that going with the 2.5Gb data plans on a few lines. Plus T-Mobile will apply my work discount to the entire bill, not just the data buy ups either... Sprint maybe knocked off $5 per line from their plan pricing, but pushed a $15-20 per month charge on to their customers instead by removing the subsidies, and trying to market it as a great "no contract" deal with a funny name..

If I didn't have to travel so often into many areas across rural MN and WI where there is zero T-mobile service or only 2g data coverage, i'd swap to T-Mobile based on their no-nonsense approach to plans, pricing, and website ease of use. I think Voice coverage on every carrier will be pretty much the same, but the data coverage for T-Mobile just ins't there yet. It may be faster than sprint when you can get thier 4G, but at least for now with Sprint I get 3g or 4g data just about everywhere I need it, alhtough sometimes very slow. But at least I have the data and it's useable, unlike some of the zero coverage or unuseably slow 2g or worse data on T-Mobile outside of the larger city areas.

I've been with Sprint about 14 years now, and they have just always been the carrier I love to hate.... I'm never 100% happy with Sprint but they do just enough to string me along. Just when you think the new plan options are going to be great, I run the numbers and they fall short of the value being marketed. Most of the time because I hang onto these older legacy plans for a while rather than just jumping to the next exciting plan option.. most new plan options end up costing more to existing customers. Framily is a good example... It would cost me more to get the same thing I have now, although I would LOVE to add 1 more line to my account to cover my dad. Sprint tops out at 5 lines on their shared plans. Framily sounds like a great option and only $30 a line for 6 members! Until you do the math, add in the data add ups, and the monthly device financing charges, it's cheaper to keep what I have, and get pops a trackphone... grrrr....

T-Mobile however has got my attention, and if they can get some better coverage, they will be worth a look.

Just my rant for today.. :)

Man you nailed it! 👍😎
It's like your mind and mine are synced! 😉

That's exactly the way I think and feel about Sprint and T-Mobile!

Only 2 lines?!
How much is it and do you have unlimited data?

With 2 lines, each is $50.00 per. I added the $20.00 to my line for Unlimited data & yearly upgrades.
My corporate discount is off the $20.00 only, but that is the way it is now anyway.
I am going to add my Father-In-Law and at least one guy from work.
That will drop each line to $40.00 per month. Each additional person drops the per line charge $5.00 until we hit at least 7, and then is stops at $25.00 per line.
The $15.00 fee is waived and will remain waved.
You DO NOT share anything, including personal info.
Everyone still gets their own seperate bill.

So far, I am seeing no downside.
Of course, the day is young. ;)

If you (or anyone) wants to join me in my Adventure in Space and Time, all you need is my Framily ID number and then you call Sprint (*2) and ask to join in. Simple as that. PM me.

Wait.. So would. It be cheaper to have my parents start a framily? They are on the unlimited my way (2 lines) with 1 GB of data each. They pay about 170 after taxes.

Yes. Yes it would.
For just them, 2 lines at $50.00 per plus taxes.

Aw the only thing that would suck is paying activation charges again :o.

Sprint needs to do so much more than offer a convoluted "the more you spend, the more you save" plan. They need to fix the actual service they offer and the ability to preform customer service. When they do that, they can start waxing on about any whacky bait and switch offers. Without good, reliable service, even a no-charge Sprint plan makes no sense to me.

We switched last week. 6 lines used to cost us $300 before taxes and now we will be paying $180 before taxes. The $15 per phone fee is waived. I figured the savings would more than pay for new phones and we aren't under contract anymore.

That sounds good but, do you get unlimited data on all the phones?

My understanding is each line can be tailored to what that user wants whether it is 1gig, 3 gig, or unlimited data.

If anyone wants to join a Framily, please send me a private message.
