Sprints plans compared to others (price wise)

Um, that's not how the TEP works. A Sprint store will repair you phone for free. But if it needs to be replaced then you have to pay the deductable and go through Assurion. What you experienced is a warrenty replacement. All phones come with a 1 year warrenty, and if you phone needs to be replaced because of a defect or malfunction (and you didn't break it) then Sprint order a new one for you or swap it out in-store and then send your phone back as a warrenty claim. That's not part of the TEP.

Sorry but I have to tell you that you are completely wrong. I have had several Sprint/Nextel phones replaced over the past decade and have NEVER paid a deductible. In fact, I have had 3 phones replaced that I purchased off eBay. The last one was a Palm Pre that I knew was broken before I bought it. Brought it to the local Sprint repair store & they replaced it for FREE.

If that is in fact the case I'm guessing that the pre hadn't been released more than a year yet. As long as you had it activated on your account I would assume that they'd replace it. Within the first year I'm guessing that its the manufacture replacing it and not sprint. Therefore they aren't quite as strick about it.

Not that we need to dwell on this, but I checked my eBay records and I purchased the used Pre on Jan 20, 2011. The Pre was originally introduced on June 6, 2009 and I'm almost positive that Sprint didn't offer it for that long so no, it most likely was not covered under warranty. My wife and I both had Pres for a while and I had each of them replaced several times (anyone familiar with WebOS knows the hardware is crap).

Moral of the story, before you just on the phone with Assurion to file a claim, go to your local Sprint Repair Center. Most likely you will get your phone replaced for free. Worst case, they make you pay a deductible. Either way, you will get your phone replaced same day and you won't have to pay any shipping charges.

Well, Sprint was the launch carrier for the Pre (and later, the Pixi), but they never got the Pre+ or the Pre 2, which both went to other carriers. I'm fairly certain that Sprint continued to carry the original Pre into at least part of 2011, but I could be wrong.

I went through 3 Pre handsets between 2009 and 2010 because as you're were saying, the hardware was garbage. After my third Pre broke, I was done and ended up jumping ship to Android. But man, there's some things I really miss about webOS.

You certainly have some good cs at your sprint location.

Hah...well, at the time I was a 4-line customer with 10 years of active service. I'm not sure whether that really meant anything or if my store just had good CS.

But I canceled my Sprint account this week. I got tired of crappy 3G.

Yeah I've been with the for 10+ years also. I really think.the particular store matters. Some employees could just care less. I was at the breaking point also with my 3g but in the last month it has significantly improved.
