Stable Android 13

I'm unlocked on VZW. Do the carriers still have any sway if you're on an unlocked device??

I'm not sure exactly what you mean by 'sway', but the U.S. carriers certify unlocked software before it is released on their network.

I'm still waiting on T-Mobile to release the unlocked Android 13 version for my Note20U. Apparently, they haven't certified it yet, or it hasn't rolled out to my area.

:)

Meaning the carriers are still basically the gatekeepers for the software updates that the OEMs like to brag about. I wasn't sure if that's still a big thing.

Out of curiosity, if you have an unlocked Pixel on VZW, would that still be the case?

Thanks for explaining your use of 'sway' to me. I understand now.
:)
We'll see what the Pixel users say. I've never had a Pixel.

On my unlocked pixels on AT&T I always got the updates as soon as Google released them. It didn't seem like AT&T slowed them up at all. I got the impression they didn't mess with the unlocked pixel updates. Same with our older Moto phones that were running stock Android... including one on Verizon ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I thought I'd heard that the carriers left the unlocked phones updates alone, and my experiences have seemed to back that up.

But I have also heard Samsung is a different story... on all the carriers. Maybe it's because One UI is such a heavily skinned version of Android? Not as simple to approve?

I had this same unlocked N20U on AT&T for a year and a half and never experienced much in the way of an update delay. I'd see the updates within days of reading about them online.

Recently brought this device over to VZW and this is the first time I read about an update a month or so ago and still don't have it available in my device.

Maybe just a coincidence sure, but giving me flashbacks to owning Samsung devices back in the day, and waiting months for an update to reach me after it was published.
