Starting to lag

I run my N8 in power saving mode all the time since day one. Never had any lag issues. Very smooth.

Edit: I don't even do any maintenance or even close apps. Maybe I just got lucky and got a good one.

I've had no lag with my first gen Samsung Galaxy Note 8. I have all kind of apps downloaded to it and running in the background. Also I have it set to restart the phone once a week to help any lag problems. So either I got lucky or you're not doing it right.

Every computing device should be rebooted occasionally to verify there is cleanup for any third party apps that might have memory leaks etc... Also always install any and all updates as soon as they come out... Lastly, leave at least 20% free storage space on the unit or else that will intermittently/continuously slow things down...

Agreed. This supports the rational points provided earlier in this thread and every other thread on this topic in this forum.

The entire topic of "lag" is continually conflated with other topics and misunderstandings to produce an on-going cluster of confusion.

Maybe there should be a forum sticky that states a few common-sense points that all owners of computing devices need to know, along with the statement that there are no devices/brands that are immune. Then, every time someone says something like "When will my new Samsung start to lag?", we can just respond with a link to the sticky, and we'll be done with it.

If we were able to do this, maybe we could de-fuse this entire topic.
Wouldn't that be nice?

I'm having a gallery lag where it will stutter opening and closing pics. Anyone have a solution to this?

Yes, this issue is present in Note 8 as well (it was present on Note 2, Note 4 as well). After opening Gallery App, there is a 2-3 sec. wait time, after which we are able to scroll down / open pics, not immediately. But after that it's fine.
I have reported above issue to Samsung, let's hope they fix it in the future.

During the phone call switching back to the homepage it almost froze. Had to end the call and restart the phone and everything went back to normal.

It's only been 1 month.

You guys have any problems yet?

No. I did not have such issue, it's been 20 days, but mine is Exynos version. I suspect the Snapdragon version is having such issues, wherein few users have reported about the freezing of Contacts App. Try to Wipe Cache partition from the Recovery menu.

Not an issue for me and I have TONS of pics and folders. Gallery opens immediately for me and I can scroll/access photos with zero system hesitation.

I do the same except I don't even use power saving mode. no lag or issues.

that's why I don't use the gallery. that's a Sammy gallery issue. I use Quickpic and have no lag issues while in gallery mode.

Am not having this issue. Are you saving pics in SD card ? It also depends on read speed of your card.

Good workaround... And also, I love your username!

thanks. :) and thanks! and I don't, but know someone who does.

I keep my pictures on my SD, then upload to dropbox. zero lag issues with Quickpic. always lag issues with Sammy's gallery no matter where I keep the pics. it just can't deal if you're an avid photographer.

The issue I'm having is when opening and closing pics in the gallery there is lag and stuttering. I don't have that many pics either.

I can ask if one of the Ambassadors is interested in writing a guide up. But, any regular member is welcome to write up a guide as well.

I followed very simple strategy
I just open the developer options and decreased all the animations to nil, my lag was gone.
I should also mention I have 10 GB the memory left in the phone, not all the memory is used.

ditto. and I am constantly surprised at how zippy this device is even with all my preferred apps loaded and using an SD card for all apps possible, pictures, and music.

I restart my device every day and it hasn't slowed down a bit. Loving it.

I bet this has been done before. Can you ask if it has? Maybe then it's just a brief editing job.

I have mine set to restart automatically at 4am every wednesday and running performance mode all the time, I do a restart a couple of times a week as well and still zero lag after nearly 6 weeks
