Stock Verizon Nexus Wi Fi freezing at "turning on"

I am on 4.0.2 stock android. I have searched and see posts on this where most advice assumes the user has rooted the phone, and/or they have a hardware issue. Mine is absolutely stock.

I wonder if there is a definitive answer on this.

I did not have this problem until a month or so ago. Yes I have installed various apps over that time, including wi fi analyzer which I put to good use.

However at some point it started doing this. When I try to turn wi fi on either with the widget or in setup, it freezes and does not work. EVERY TIME if I turn the phone off and then back on, wi fi starts up. So it sure seems to be some kind of software issue.

Any ideas? I am wondering if the update to the new android version coming out might fix it.
Or if anyone has definitely fixed it with something other than a new phone load....which I suspect just results perhaps in a different OS version or apps loaded. And then magically it works again.

My sense is if it was really hardware, it would NEVER work.

Thanks,

A forced app "kill" of whatever wi-fi analyzer had running solved this problem.
No issues since.

I know you have solved this issue, but I was curious if your GN has ever had the wifi issue mine has had a few times.

For whatever reason my Nexus will work fine on my home wifi for a while and then eventually it will just refuse to connect. It will stay unconnected until I have went in, deleted my saved wifi connection and then re add it. Once it is re added it connects fine and works like normal for a few weeks.

When it happens and it refuses to connect I have tried uplugging my router and rebooting the phone, but nothing seems to work except for deleting and re saving the connection.

Has your's ever acted like that?

That sounds like a router issue.

When I got my phone the first day I went through 2 units. The third one finally worked. When I turned on the wifi it the phone would go in to boot loop (constantly powercycling) I had to do a factory reset for it to stop. Battery pull did not help. As soon as I did factory reset I turned wifi on and it would boot loop again.

I'm not sure if it could be a router problem or not. I will say I've never had to do anything similar with any of the other things that are connected to my wifi.

I think I am going to buy a new router anyway, one to see if that helps and also mine is like 4 years old now.

No, sorry to say mine has never done anything like that. I have had strange things happen with old wi-fi AP's or routers. Worth giving that a shot before exchanging phone or starting from scratch. I wonder how many people had my wi-fi startup problem and exchanged their phone, when it was another app conflicting... That's kind of like the "re-install windows" solution!:)
