Stop auto add contacts to Favorites on phone app

So, is there a way to stop the system from automatically adding contacts to my favorites in the stock phone app on my Pixel. I set up my speed dial contacts the way I want it, but as I make phone calls the system is automatically adding them to the favorites tiles.

I believe the Favorites tab in the Phone app combines your Starred (Favorite) contacts (which are listed first) and your Frequently Called contacts (listed afterwards, distinguished by not having a star). I'm not sure if you can prevent the Phone app from adding the Frequents to the list, although you can Clear Frequents in the Phone app's menu.
