Strange. Heart rate suddenly freezing up

Let us know if it helps. I suspect most heart rate issues to be software related but hopefully it fixes it for you. Third party apps seldom, if ever drop.

I am pretty sure it's hardware or software at a low level. I could not ever un-stick my watch and always needed to restart the watch for it to begin tracking right. The last time it stopped working, I had to restart the watch twice, and even then, it took 2 or 3 minutes to start working again. It locked up again after that, and I made my decision to return it for a refund.

Too bad...it looks real nice and it had the features I needed at a good price.

Samsung: Be Better.

Cool. Contact the developer of Gear Tracker and he will fill you in as to exactly what the issues are and how his app has solved them. He is a software genius and a very nice guy, too.

Sonnnet hi again...I am reading every day all the forum members comments and suggestions...very helpful and encouraging
Unfortunately the Gear Tracker is not available for Cyprus "yet".
I contacted the developer 3-4 and he said he is doing his best.
Also I sent 4 error reports to Samsung regarding the HR issues and you all know what their response was..."We are doing our best and bla bla bla" hahaha ...they just do the classic copy paste poem 😡

Hi Kko. I really hope Gear Tracker gets released in Cyprus. I wonder what the issue is? I'm still beta testing it and there have been loads of incremental changes to the betas. The latest beta is phenomenal and I consistently get perfect HR tracking results. It's now going through final tweaks and then it will be released as a new store version. Hopefully by the time that happens, it will also be released in Cyprus.

Lol re Samsung's cut and paste responses. Complete jokers! Thankfully the watch itself is awesome and I love it, thanks to Gear Tracker. I wish I could say the same for their Tizen fitness tracking software programmers....

After getting my watch back after the 5th return to Samsung and its 3rd repair, my last two workouts one with Under Armour Record and one with Gear Tracker showed exactly the same symptoms. I reported this back to Samsung and a full refund is being processed and the watch being collected. I am in two minds about going straight out and buying another Samsung Galaxy Watch just to prove that it was that watch but at present I am looking to see what alternative devices there are. I do have 3 additional straps totalling around £100 which I am out of pocket for so that may help me make up my mind.

Samsung finally deposited a full refund into my account today, days after they have released an update for the watch. Well in the US anyway. Before the watch was finally returned to Samsung, I purchased a Polar OH1 heart rate monitor which paired with the Gear Tracker app running on the watch and Under Armour Record successfully and obtained consistent results from both apps. I also used it with my S9+ phone and used it with the Polar Beat software again with faultless recording of data. I will probably wait for the Galaxy Watch software update to be released over here then purchase the watch again and give it another try with the Gear Tracker and Under Armour applications and if it does not work then return it immediately within the 14 days for a full refund. If the watch update does not fix the problem then those of you not happy with your watch's HR problems should phone Samsung Support and start sending it back for repair. Eventually (hopefully) the Samsung bean counters will catch on, cause that's all they understand.

Not True . That sounds like an anomoly and he just needs a reset. Mine is working perfectly so far. It even starts sensing quicker when I put it on. The update does turn off always on heart rate so that needs reset. I have used on eals and it's fine. It hasn't froze or given me an issue ant matches what I get on my cuff. I know another here that said his improved greatly. I didn't have issues prior exceot for one or two freezes after the first update. He had many issues and so far they are fixed. I am sure a few bad watches may be out there but I think they did well.

Well, after getting my £299 back from Samsung they only decided to go and release the new software update for the watch. So my thinking was that this update would solve all the HR problems so I went out and bought another. Doh!
At least this one is only costing me £249 after the cash-back deal, but that still does not make me any less of an imbecile. The HR problems are still there, no less than they were before whilst playing squash or out cycling. I have a Polar OH1 HR monitor which I can use to replace the watch's internal HR monitor while exercising, so at least I can successfully track my workouts now.

Not that I am kinky/perverted in any way, but would any of you people like to post images of your sweaty arms showing how you wear your watch when recording workouts and how successful the recording app is at monitoring your HR rate?

P.S I was prepared to purchase the watch irrespective of the HR problems cause a) I love this watch and b) I had a solution for obtaining the HR data for my workouts.

I have had one lockup of heart rate since the update and it was totally unrelated to excersize. I blamed it on playing with various watch faces but I am not certain. It was stuck around 119 and would only go higher. A reboot fixed it. From what I have read about all id these sport watches(I owned a Fitbit Ionic as well) it must be worn below the ball joint of the wrist bone for best reading. I don't heavy a sweaty picture but I will try to show where I have it for exercise. It's hard to show but if I feel right by where the top of the band connects to the watch I can feel the tip of the rounded wrist bone.

Well, I have had heart rate stop three times now since it's been warmer. Dirt time was with Gear Tracker. I know it stopped because it read 117 on hills, the flat, basically constant. It was quite warm and I was sweaty. The next day it was more rain in my walk. I was sweating and using the included walk tracker. It stopped reading. I took ot off, dried the watch and my wrist with my shirt, and it started reading again. The exact same sequence happened today with just sweat. The quick clean fixed it. These are the very first time I had issues and it was three days in a row. I am going to do a back up and reset.

I tried wearing my watch on the underside of my wrist while playing squash on Wednesday. Only the one drop out but was reconnected within 4 minutes thanks to Gear Tracker. I also had problems with the internal HR at the weekend while cycling. I am at the stage now, that for me I will no longer use the internal HR of the watch for tracking my sports/workouts. Gear Tracker now gets connected to Polar OH1. Internal HR is used for normal day/night time activities.

I just wish gear tracker shared with Samsung Health so I got all of the charts and such. Or at least had an android app for everything. I don't really want another monthly fee for Strava.

Hi to all and I hope you are well...for me news are very positive after the latest watch UI update. I have done 4 workouts, 12km each, and Thank God each one had faultless and right spot on Heart rate workings. I couldn't believe it myself that this major issue has been solved and I kept watching my HR all the time....I just hope this fix came to stay and sth else wont come up out of the blue.
Sonnnet, regarding the unavailability of Gear Tracker for my case, I finally got an official answer, after 2 months asking and waiting for Samsung support. So I just had to access to Gear Tracker which lasts only for 5 workouts....anw

This works with the free version of Strava, you don't have to pay for a subscription. Just make sure Strava is added as a 'connected service' to S Health on the phone. The only caveat is that the sync from Strava to S Health is usually overnight, so if you workout Monday afternoon, it won't show til Tuesday morning on S Health.

Here below is their answer[/QUOTE @Kko 5 Annoying, but you'll get the full version and more by becoming a beta tester.

I became a beta tester but it does me no good because I don't have a Samsung phone. But I can read what's coming. I also want to add that my heart rate freezes every walk since the last update. Even in gear tracker. I can only fix it by taking off the watch and wiping my wrist and the sensor off. Today I didn't catch so I was flat lined at 128 for half of my walk in gear tracker. I may end up looking at Garmin, Fitbit, or a band (obviously most accurate). With my history of tachycardia and Afib from the chronic sarcoidosis constant heart monitoring is super important for me.

If you are considering a HR monitoring band I can recommend the Polar OH1. It costs £70 and you can wear it on your upper or lower arm (but not near the wrist). It is BLE and ANT+ so you can bluetooth pair it with Gear Tracker on your watch (with the watches internal HR disabled) and ANT+ pair it with other apps running on your phone which require HR readings at the same time (such as Strava).

@Greymire, that's an excellent suggestion by @tony
One of the great features of Gear Tracker is this ability to pair with a BLE chest strap and if you are having problems with Galaxy Watch HR sensor, this would solve your tracking problems.
However, it doesn't solve the problem of constant HR throughout the day (and night) not working for you and I know that's crucial for you, so I hear what you are saying. It's a shame and I wish it would work for you.

Thanks.. That was actually one I was looking at today.
