Anyone else having problems streaming media server content (Plex, Serviio, etc.) to their N9? Videos are choppy or just won't display. I'm using BubbleUPnP and have tried various players - VLC, etc. It's not a codec problem.

This works fine using my LG G3 (KitKat) as well as my Windows 8.1 laptop. Not sure if this is a Lollipop issue.

Bumping myself :p

Wondering if anyone else has this issue, or if not, maybe share your secret?

I put Lollipop on my G3, and DLNA streaming works fine on that device. Everything appears configured the same on my N9 & G3, but the N9 still lags or just stalls. Thanks for any input.

Bitrate? Transcoding? It could also be a wireless bandwidth issue on the N9 end. Also, it still could be a codec issue dependent on the N9,(I haven't researched the video capabilities of the N9). DLNA/uPnP is not very efficient either.

Thanks for the info/link. Will look into it.

I think I can rule out codec since many of the file formats play locally. DLNA/UPnP has always worked well out-of-the-box for me w/several devices in the past, at least on my local network. The N9 is the first "troublemaker", so its kinda weird.

I use Plex with absolutely no issues what-so-ever. I haven't tried streaming locally using any other app.

Lol, the N9 in that thread is one from Nokia, not the Nexus 9. Thx, tho.

So I've tried different servers (Plex, Serviio) and players (VLC, MX Player, etc). Same result, streams fine on other devices, stutters & stalls on my N9. 😢

A couple suggestions that you may not like :)

Have you rebooted?
Is the latest software installed? (Android)
Last ditch effort would be a factory reset :(

Thanks, yes I've done all those. I've seen threads where Nexus 7 had a similar problem when that device first came out. I'm getting closer to replacing my Wi-Fi router.

Have you tried streaming some of the constant bitrate files? To see when the limitation occurs?

Judging by what you've told us so far, your router is probably just fine. Can you return the N9?

Yup, just did my last factory reset. It's going back tonight.

Hmm, what to buy next...

So I bought a new Nexus 7 2013 for $150. Streaming works great out-of-the-box.

Also, holding the N7, you can feel the difference in build quality compared to the N9. No flappy back, no spongy buttons, it just feels more solid.

Yes I am currently having issues with my nexus player and plex. My setup is running pled from a Mac Mini thats all in the same room still having choppy and clocking from the start of videos. Mobile Devices work just fine so I know it's not Plex. Updates are all up to date and running 5.0.1 on my Nexus 5

Same problem here. But I managed to solve this by compressing movie before streaming. You can give that a shot.

It's the Nexus 9.I've had video playback issues with Amazon instant video a lot and even Netflix some. This tablet has serious software problems. Rebooting helps for a while but Rebooting twice a day is just crazy.

All works fine on my Nexus 7 and Z3c
