Hello,

I own an LG Optimus S on the Sprint Network. The version of the software is LS670ZVD. I was trying to root the phone, I did the following things:

1. I followed the instructions at http://forum.androidcentral.com/450621-post225.html

These did not work as they are designed for the V9 version of the software which I only realized after the fact.

2. I began following part 1 from http://forum.androidcentral.com/lg-...oting-software-version-ls670zvd-outdated.html

I got to step 1 and typed "./adb reboot recovery" on the terminal in my mac to see what version of the recovery tool I had installed. After I did this, I used the home key on my phone to select "reboot system now". However, nothing happened. The phone showed a cartoon android and an exclamation mark inside a triangle for several minutes (>5).

3. I removed the battery and tried rebooting. The same recovery screen showed up. I tried all of the 4 options available, and all of them lead to the same cartoon android and exclamation mark inside a triangle.

Any help would be appreciated.

I've never seen or heard of the screen with the android that you described, this is the guide that you should of followed to root your phone because it is way easier than anything else: http://forum.androidcentral.com/lg-optimus-s-rooting-roms-hacks/79208-how-rooting-ls670zvd-gingerbreak-no-reverting-ota-works-too.html

to fix it this is what i would try first: http://forum.androidcentral.com/lg-optimus-s-rooting-roms-hacks/59781-un-brick-method-some-forms-brick.html

after you do that it's gonna put you on VC baseband which is outdated and sucks so then you gonna update OTA (over the air) to VD and then do what it says in the first link. (How to rooting with Gingerbreak)

to me it seem u were still on stock recovery u hace to get superuser on ur phone first then get custom recovery on ur phone by either using adb or terminal ........i agree with ^^^^ above me

Yup, sounds like STOCK recovery image. If it is YELLOW text commands in recovery you are on the LG Recovery.

I may be best to Root, Recover and ROM from a windows PC

I appreciate the responses. However, I currently can not root the phone as the phone is stuck in recovery and I cannot access the shell (adb shell gives an error). I will try the method to unbrick posted by uberjam when I can get to a PC. Thanks again.

Try out this fix from Zefie. It involves pushing a file through ADB. Follow the directions to the letter and it should fix your problem.

Guys with the Custom Recovery Boot Loop:
First off this is NOT a recovery image and do NOT flash it, follow the instructions provided!

1) Download recovery.bin
2) Extract file with 7zip or WinRAR or whatever.
3) Open a command prompt to the same folder as where you placed extracted recovery.bin

4) Run these adb commands
adb push recovery.bin /rec
adb shell chmod +x /rec
adb shell /rec

5) Now you should see LG's recovery menu. Simply hit "reboot" (first option).
6) Boot loop should now be gone.

Tech Details: LG has some funny voodoo going on and only their recovery can tell the phone to stop booting into recovery. This is why it says "do not remove the battery" on their recovery.

Yea, if you cannot access ADB at all, you will have to use the KP500 utility and try to fix it via emergency mode.

You will have to use a PC - Win XP if possible, but Win 7 should also work.

So I just got done following this guide downgrading to VC: http://forums.androidcentral.com/lg...s/59781-un-brick-method-some-forms-brick.html (big thanks btw)

So now I'm just stuck in Thunderc Recovery 1.1.0 and no matter how many roms and backups I flash it always boots back to thunderc 1.1.0

any ideas?

Flashing roms and backups does not touch the recovery partition (unless you're flashing an official OTA from a carrier). You need to manually install a custom recovery (like Xionia Clockwork or CWMT Recovery.)

What OS & radio version are you running now?

To get stock recovery, flash the official Sprint ZVD OTA update ( http://forums.androidcentral.com/lg...sprint-zvd-froyo-downgrade-now-available.html ) (I believe you'll need to flash this twice in order to get stock recovery, but I have never attempted to update from Thunderc / ZV9 so i'm not 100% sure). Don't forget to wipe system, data and cache before flashing.

Then you can re-root Froyo/ZVD if that is your intent.

Then you should probably install Xionia Clockwork (see this thread: http://forums.androidcentral.com/lg...covery-xionia-clockwork-cwma-v1-2518-6-a.html) or CWMT ( http://forums.androidcentral.com/lg...covery-cwmt-recovery-5-0-2-7-th6-t-touch.html ). Then you can update to gingerbread or install a rom or whatever you want.

EDIT: See posts 10 and 12 before doing anything.

Also, by the way, don't try to flash any Sprint official (OTA or otherwise) updates with a custom recovery (unless you flash 2.2 ZVD once to restore the "3e" recovery partition, then again to actually write the ZVD radio image and install official Froyo.)

Sounds to me, the easiest thing to do would be to put the ZVD downgrade on the sdcard and flash it back to stock and start over.

Basically. Although actually it may be necessary to install Xionia Clockwork recovery FIRST (by renaming the file to "recovery" and placing it on the root of the sdcard, then in adb or terminal emulator type

Code:
adb shell
su
flash_image recovery /path-to-recovery.img/recovery.img

the path should be "sdcard/recovery.img" if you put it on the root of the sd card.

EDIT: Did some digging. DO NOT FLASH THE ZVD UPDATE WITH THUNDERC RECOVERY. Flash Xionia CWMA Recovery v1.2518.6 FIRST.
