Hi all, I hope you guys can help me. I am currently running Newts XXX ROM and I since I am traveling overseas I wanted to make my phone global. But I installed the wrong patch...I used the StockGSMpatch instead of the non stock GSMpatch (from Joel on XDA) and now I can't get pass the HTC white screen. I tried flashing the non stock patch through recovery and it didn't work. I tried flashing the boot.img from Newts ROM and that didn't work. All I can do is get into recovery...

If all else fails, I might have to wipe everything. If so, can I backup my data (like contacts) using recovery? Is there a way to backup my contacts and text messages without going into the OS? Or at least I can hook it up to a PC and copy my files over and figure it out later? I tried using the USB-MS toggle in Recovery, but I don't see my root files in the file explorer...Any help would be appreciated!

Ok so yes you can do a backup in the recovery screen by going to back up and restore option I'm not sure if it backsup the contacts though. I would assume so but I'm not 100% sure

Thanks for the reply. Since my ROM is broken (stuck at HTC white screen), wouldn't doing a backup just be backing up a broken ROM? I just want to figure out a way to pull files directly from the root folder (mainly just contacts and text msgs) and then just do a clean wipe.

Yes you will be backup a broken rom there is no way that I know of to access the file structure as the OS has even begun booting yet. The Recovery is before the OS begins to boot from my understanding. With this said If you at least do a nandroid back up you can pull the contact from it from my understanding when your phone is back up and running

Head over to the rooting section and check out the non-root backup I posted there. Not my tool but may be the backup you're looking for. Other than that, I'd suggest RUU'ing to 4.03.605.2 (the global RUU) and then reload your ROM.

Thanks for the replies! I tried the non root tool, but it did not work. I ended up finding a program called Droid Explorer and it allowed me to access my root folder while connected to recovery via ADB. I was able to find the folders with my contacts and messages and copied them to my PC. Now I'm going to install the latest global RUU and hopefully get my phone back in working order. I appreciate the help people!
