Stupid Mistake…Getting a iPhone 12 Pro Max

I am on both ecosystems. I recently bought an iPhone 8+ and iOS on the larger screen is really nice. I can't stand the notch so the newer phones will never be an option for me. As long as the 8+ gets updates I will try and keep it.

I prefer Android versions of apps over the iOS versions. Many people prefer the Apple versions but not me. Also in-app purchases are usually cheaper on Android. For instance I use Day One journal since about 2010. On Android I pay around £22 a year subscription but on Apple it is around £28. So the difference is quite high. And the app has the same functionality on both platforms. Luckily paying on Android still gives me access on my iPhone and iMac.

I am addicted to kwgt apps so I will never move fully to Apple. I love to customise and Samsung gives me the best customisation options.

But each to their own.

I wish Day One was not a subscription. Don't mind paying for an app but I hate subscriptions.

How do you use the apple watch with Samsung? I have an iphone that I can link my apple watch to but once I leave the house the watch doesn't get any notifications bc the iphone isn't with me. Do y'all carry both phones?

I carry both phones with me.

Yeah. I originally bought the app for my Mac and iPhone 4s years ago when it was in first generation. Then they upgraded it to a newer generation and introduced the subscriptions to keep getting all the features including extra journals I had to upgrade and subscribe. I have been using it for so long now I am kinda tied into it now. I got it when my Grandma died in March 2012 to record my bereavement and counselling sessions. And kept it since then. I just checked. My first entry was about my Grandmother’s death.

I have been recording my sleep tracking every day since 2016.

I have an iPhone SE 2 that I keep for use with my Apple Watch. Still waiting for my new S21+ to be delivered, but my plan is to only carry the SE when I have to as the S21+ will be my daily driver.

I’m also thinking about eventually getting a Galaxy smart watch. Lol.

I personally have learned to just use an iPad and a Galaxy. I used to be the one who had to upgrade both devices every year, but it gets costly... so I decided to pick an ecosystem and just go with it. yes Apple is good, but not at a 1k price tag every year. and they really don't discount their prices, even for loyal users, which for me as a consumer is sort of a turn off as well. I have money invested in both between iTunes and misc stuff on my Samsung device. and now a days it's so easy to transfer things from one platform to the other... it's sort of a no brainer.

everyone of my friends is like, " iPhones last longer," ... well not really... batteries still need to be changed out, and working in Mobile, I've honestly seen more broken iPhone screens than any other device... and batteries on both platforms as a rule of thumb should be changed anyways.
phones today, like cars aren't built to last. Phones are lucky as a whole to get more than 2-4 years anyway. so if I can trade in and get a flagship device for less than a mid range price.. why not?

I like Apple security but I prefer file structure that is easily accessible and works with Windows.

When I retire I could see switching to iPhone.

I have a pixel and an iPhone, I honestly don’t see how using iOS is “painful”. Everything is much easier to use generally.

Short of customizing the icons (which you can do now days, just a little bit more effort than android without jb), there’s nothing that the pixel or any of the Samsung phones I’ve had can do that my iPhone can’t at this point. Sure there’s like the S-pen and you can “multitask” and dock your phone like a computer. But for me the multitasking on such a small device isn’t really useful. Would I like to be able to use an apple pen on my phone? Sure it would be a nice feature to have. Docking my phone like a computer though? I’ll pass on that. I’m not going to do any useful work on a phone used like a computer.

I’m not hating on android, I buy an android phone every two years and a new iPhone every year they both have things I like about them. But I don’t get the over exaggerating about how iOS is hard to use compared to Samsung stuff.

They each have their pluses and minuses both good and bad. We all know apps on IOS runs much better and Android is more customizable so it's a personal preference that make the choice and the right one.

I feel this is more debatable than fact as I've read enough commentary on apps being better and worse on the other ecosystem, and I've enjoyed some far better or worse on both systems as well.

for me as a user it has also come down loyalty, and while Apple can afford to be nicer to its loyal fan base, they aren't. Samsung will give amazing discounts for their trade ins and have for a long time. and I hope they still remain doing so. it's nice to get a flagship devices at mid range costs... with an iPhone there are some discounts for trade in, but nothing like how Samsung does it.

Thing with Apple is I can sell my previous Gen phone for 70% of value when the new phone comes out. So different route same outcome for cost out of pocket. But Samsung throwing in the freebies on top of it is even more outstanding.
