Suddenly Droid MAXX battery last less than 24 hours

Okay, I'm not sure about the efficacy of posting in a months-old thread, but since the update last month, my battery life has been really, really bad. My battery is no longer even lasting a full day, and my use is not extraordinary. It used to be that I would charge the phone at night with 20 - 30% battery left, unless I was doing something where I was on the phone a ton. Now, my battery is dying by 8 or 9 pm without extraordinary use.

I've already done a Cache Wipe, and it didn't help. I guess the logical next step is an FDR, but man, I really don't feel like wiping out the phone and starting over! Can anybody suggest anything less extreme?

I thought that turning off the constant monitoring for "Okay Google Now" might help, and I think it might have, but I really like being able to that so I turned it back on.

I've posted a Battery Screenshot. I noticed that the highest use is the Screen, but I have it set to the defaults: Auto brightness, 1 minute turn-off.

I had the same issue once and realized it was the Android System with a percentage over 15. The only thing that cured it bringing the percentage down was a factory reset. I had even gone in to all running apps and cleared caches etc app specific. The FDR worked for me anyway. Just my two cents.

Which two apps are showing notifications in the screen shot? The one that looks like a coffee cup and the one next to it?

The "coffee cup" is a Leaf, I think, showing that the phone has gone into Battery Saver mode. This turns off the background data in order to conserve battery life. This functionality is built into the Maxx, it's not an add-on. To the right of that is the Simple Sound Widget, which I have been using for the last several years. It allows you to quickly select between Sound Profiles, like Normal, Night and Silent. It was last updated in 2013, so I can't blame it for anything (I think!)

Yeah, I really, really don't want to do a factory reset if I can possibly avoid it!

Some things I would do if I were you:

Clear data for Google Play Services. Apps - Google PS - Manage Space - Clear all data.

Clear data for shell, Motocare, and force stop moto care. You have to Force Stop it after every boot, but it helps.

Boot into safe mode, even for just a minute. It clears out some junk and you have to reset widgets, log back into facebook, twitter etc.

Are you running ART? If so, change to DALVIK, once it boots switch back to ART so the apps get re-optimized.

These are steps I take when my battery life gets shaky and they have always helped. I think this is a last resort before a FDR, but i'm waiting for lollipop before I do that.

Something else to look at. I noticed in your notifications that you have a temperature. I have noticed that weather apps that sync continually are a big battery drain. I would recommend if you can live without it to shut that down or at least change how often it synchronizes. There are apps that when you open them they sync to the correct temperature.

JMHO

Also have a battery that is draining in about 8 hours. Have tried turning off all syncs, location services, etc. Trying a partition cache wipe tonight. Hoping to avoid a factory reset.

With Google services that high I wonder if you have a sync error. Look in settings / Google, tap your Gmail account and see if there are any red circles that keep spinning.

Thanks for your suggestions. So you're suggesting that I just keep killing Motocare?

I'm not running ART, nor am I running Voice over LTE.

Yeah, I guess my weather widget is an indulgence, but darn it, I used to be able to run it without a problem. I don't really want to compromise my phone's usability; I just want the battery life that I used to have back.

In a recent update, I think it was Be weather, started causing a problem. I would try shutting down the app just for a day or two and see if it helps. Most times the type of drain you are seeing is caused by a bad app. It might be one you have always had but the update causes a problem.

Well, this isn't Be weather, it's WeatherBug Elite. The "good" news is that it hasn't been updated in over a year, because WeatherBug abandoned it. The bad news is that I don't know if I can reinstall it if I uninstall it, because it's been discontinued. I got it from Amazon, as one of their Free Apps.

Is there a way to deactivate it without uninstalling it?

I would try running ART. I have been for months without a single issue.

I doubt it is an issue with an app because none are high on your battery stats. Google Play Services should not be at the top of your list. Try clearing out Google play services and uninstall update in it as well. There could be a problem with your latest update of it.

There are a bunch of apps that can't be disabled that I force stop after every reboot. Motocare, Moto Assist Framework, Moto services, wireless display service are a few. Motocare specifically is always running and accumulating data so it is definitely helpful to stop.

Same here, but it didn't happen with the original 4.4.4 update but with the Oct. 17 update that added volte capability. I wasn't going to update but accidentally hit the update button. Instead of the usual 3 day battery it now lasts about 1.5-2 days. Every android device I've owned has great battery life. Then the updates start to roll out and it gets worse and worse. I am not even contemplating updating to 5.0. I'd rather have battery then more useless features I will not use.

I wanted to try without getting too elaborate, so I cleared the Google Play Cache to start with. I don't know what that did, but the battery life seems to be much improved. I'm getting through the day with a reasonable safety margin now, and that's all I really needed. Thanks for your help!

This is a lot better than mine. Mine is brand new and have 36% after 9 hours. I have cleared cache and deleted apps I don't need and Idk if its just the phone or what ever but advise would help?
