Suddenly horrible battery life while traveling

I've owned my S6 for about one year now, and my battery life seemed fine when I was at home or at the office. But for the past week I've been on a road trip down the Calif coast and now in Arizona and my battery life is horrible. For example I'm in the Phoenix Metro area and my phone will go from a full charge to zero percent in less than 4 hours. I've tried turning off wifi and GPS and anything else I could think of. I don't have any social media apps installed (e.g., Facebook or Instagram). Strange that my battery life was fine before my trip but now it's horrendous.

I tried using Gsam Battery Monitor to see if I could find why I'm getting such horrible battery life, but nothing seems to stand out.

I'm thinking I may have fried my battery by using an old Sprint car charger cable that I previously used with my old Palm Pixi. Or, maybe having my phone plugged in constantly during some long driving stretches may have damaged the battery?

Any suggestions or thoughts? Thanks.

You've probably got poor cell coverage, which drains the battery. Try enabling flight mode for a while and see if your battery life improves.

Yes of course, but by a small amount. I meant if there would be a significant improvement.

Anytime I'm traveling I expect at least double the normal battery usage. Still, you could clear system cache - perhaps a recent update made it worse.

I didn't have this battery life issue last year when I was traveling basically the same path on this road trip. I'm suspecting the problem is a bad battery at this point.
