Hey there... So we did a restore just like the video for the admire and it worked OK for a little while and the the phone started acting like it was before... Its not wanting to charge, it runs super slow and it locks up and dies...... I know I need to just go buy him a new phone but we really can't afford that right now so I'm trying to at least get this one working right again until we can get a new one. Is there anything else I can try?

If you did a full factory reset and it's still acting funny, you might try a new battery. If the old battery is dying, it could cause some weird behavior.

OK, that's what I was thinking too. But when he is actually using the phone its acting really bad like what mine was doing but way worse. It just randomly shuts off or restarts and it runs slow if at all. Could it be a virus?

Test the battery. Take it out of the phone, set it on a flat, smoother surface like a table without a tablecloth, and try to spin the battery. If it spins freely, it is bulged and should be replaced.

Could it be a virus?

Actual viruses are still fairly uncommon causes of weird behavior on Android devices. In order for a virus to cause problems on an Android phone, you have to give the ok to install whatever the app was that was carrying the virus. Apps from reputable sites like Google Play Store and Amazon Appstore are very reliable, and Google usually pulls apps with malware pretty quickly. Besides that, Google automatically scans apps for malware before installing them these days. So unless your husband has been installing apps from shady sites, the likelihood of this being a virus is pretty low.

I had the same problem with my Hydro, it was shutting off, random rebooting, freezing up, starting apps by itself... It comes down to really cheap hardware that isn't capable of smoothly running the OS. No wonder it's discounted to 50 bucks now (or less?).

Would he mind using a plain old dumb phone until you can get him something better? There's lots of good deals on phones this season.

Yep. That's pretty much what we are gonna do. A cheap used phone for now and I just share my GS3 with him when he needs it. We really rely on our phones for work, that's why I have been trying so hard to fix his but whatevs. You guys are awesome, thanks for the help!
