SW Version LS670ZVD?

Was trying to root new lg via drewwaltons guide, but I have the newer lcd so when I revert to V9 I lose my screen. So was wondering how to root with z4root because I cannot launch the app because I cannot see it.
Any suggestions?
You can try the steps outlined in the RED warning #2 in my signature.

You have two choices:
1) install z4root blindly. This might be difficult as there are probably many interactions you'd need to do with the touchscreen
2) run the rage exploit from adb shell. This might take multiple attempts before you get root, but it is probably easier than installing z4root blindly.

If you have another Optimus lying around, you can try doing the z4root install side-by-side so you can see where on the touchscreen to press. You could also record a video or memorize where to press.

Personally I'd try the rage method.

Thanks sfhub, I will try the rage procedure first. Will respond with my results for other people that in the same boat as me.
Again thanks for the response.

Just a quick question.

I force flashed the update.

I have SW - LS670ZVD

But I don't have the upgraded Android 2.2.2 OR an updated baseband (still have VC). Is this what I should have?

If you are running the stock android that came with the VD update, then that is not correct.

If you have updated to a custom ROM (VC-based) or nandroid restored to what you had previously, then that is expected.

I am running TR 1.7. So what i have is ok to have and I should NOT be worried?

Yes, that is ok. The baseband version # is a hardcoded string in the ROM you are using. It isn't dynamically read from the installed baseband. The android version is of course whichever one your ROM was built from. TR1.7 is 2.2.1. Presumably TR1.8 will be based on 2.2.2

With the Optimus S now running 2.2.2 does that make the Gingerbread update that much closer?

What other phones are running 2.2.2 or were updated to 2.2.2 enroute to 2.3?

Nexus One
Motorola Droid
LG Optimus One

2.3 is nexus only AFIK. Every other phone thats not nexus gets 2.4 GB. Regarding release dates, the fact they are releasing patches for 2.2 makes me think were a couple/few months away from GB. If they were close they wouldn't have spent the time, money, energy on a froyo patch. This is me guessing though and id be happy to be wrong on this :)

Thanks.
I edited original post replacing the Nexus S with the Motorola Droid.

Just seems pretty cool to be updated to a an OS version that only few of the flagship Android phones have.

You know, with all the patches we get, it makes me think we are the guinea pigs for the other phones to make sure they get everything ironed out before they update the high-end phones. You don't want to go ahead and brick your flagship phone with an update and get the bad publicity. I mean seriously, we seem to be getting updates every month now while other phones wait 6-9 months before getting an update.

I'm thinking it just might be easier to update the Optimus line considering it's almost running a pure Android OS.

No Sense or Motoblur just a little sprint ID icon where the stock Browser should be.

oh yeah they are stringing us along. What is interesting is the vd fixs vc that wasnt really broke from the vb i really mean v9 but in the end will we ever see what we really want to see gb. :)

Very nice, I just noticed that they added a "Skip" option if you press "Menu" while your phone is stuck on "Sprint ID" Previously this option used to be "Dialer"

No more need to use voice command to bypass "Sprint ID"

I am not able to do an OTA update to VD any guess why ? Sprint shows VC as current version on their website.

There currently aren't any OTA updates from Sprint to update to VD. The only way to update to VD at this moment is to use the LG updater.

Thanks I tought that but if you look at the post just above mine they refer to an accidental OTA update to VD. I thought I was missing something.

No, there is no VD update being pushed OTA. What you were referring to was sfhub's signature, which contains a link to the guide for reverting to previous versions of the system software if you accidentally installed an OTA update. It's not implying that an OTA update for VD exists.

EDIT: I have a funny feeling that the VD update is really just LG's way of fixing their [expletive]-up with the VC update. Meaning VC and VD are really the same thing, just that LG remembered to patch (AND FLASH THIS TIME) the recovery kernel.
