Well folkes its been great! I took my Fascinate back to Verizon today. I didnt like the lag so much that I installed the Voodoo Lag fix which required Clockworkmod using Odin. Hosed my phone, or atleast I think I did. It stopped recognizing that I had a battery in the phone. So...anyways. I tried to fix it. Hours later I fixed it and started thinking. Good signal would be great. So I took it back and got the Moto Droid X.

Fascinate is an amazing phone and I had no regrets getting it first. Opted for the more professional device. Its been good, thank you everyone that helped me get my Fascinate Rooted, De-Binged, De-bloated, and 'Fascinating'.

Farewell, godspeed, and dont eat the fruit cake.

So how does the X compare on signal strength and call quality? They were the two biggest issues I had with the Fascinate. Still trying to decide between waiting for the Fascinate to possible fix those things in the 2.2 update or pick up something else.

From what I've read, the Incredible has poor signal strength and battery life (compared to the Fascinate), and I hate slide-out keyboards, so that pretty much only leaves the X, but man that thing is beyond big...

I had both and they are equal when it comes to both battery life, lag, and signal strength IMHO. They are both awesome phones. But each has its own personality.

Cory put it pretty much on the money. I like the Droids personality more. It does have better reception in the places I have to work, mainly inside DOD facilities that limit Cell Reception on purpose. Other then that they are just about even. Thats how close these two phone are. The only thing that is better it not the same then the Fascinate is the signal strength FOR ME.

Battery Life is the same. Bottom line.

Long time listener, first time caller...

er, poster. I am totally new to the androids and smart phones in general having picked mine up 2 weeks ago at Best Buy for free.

Having been a Verizon customer for years, my eyes were wide open in terms of their propensity to bloat phones with useless junk and disable useful stuff. I was really torn between this phone and the X but the Best Buy deal AND the smaller size of the Fascinate swung me. Thus far I'm very pleased. This phone and all the apps available have opened up a whole new world for me. Simply amazing.

I get the occassional momentary lag, but it doesn't bother me. My battery life and call quality have been very good so far. While I may summon the courage to root at some point, I won't until A) 2.2 comes out and, B) I feel better about my ability to do it and undo it without trashing the phone.

In the meantime, I'll be satisfied with what to me is an amazing piece of technology that I can carry around in my pocket. Your mileage may vary and evidently does. I suspect the search for the perfect phone/provider will be on-going.

I know people keep talking about the size..but when you put the fascinate next to the X, realistically they are about the same size. Length wise and width wise besides the hump for the X's cam...they truly are about the same.

My girlfriend has the X and I'm always comparing the size to my Fascinate and they are the same. I think the Fascinate is sleeker, and that makes it seem smaller. The the rounded sides make it feel smaller in your hand as well.

The Fascinate is sleeker. A true bar style smart phone. Im a large guy so I can easily operate the Droid X with one hand and the size is just fine. If the Fascinate had the same reception the Moto has I would have kept it no question. They are both great phones and you cant really go wrong with either one. They BOTH have their trade offs. It would be easier to pick between the two by just flipping a coin best two out of three wins.

I wonder if you will come back once the Fascinate starts having a plethora of customs ROMs and other cool customizations. :) And believe me after 3 Droid X's I have determined the X is not without fault. There are a myriad of issues the X has. Good luck with it. I did not have much luck with my X's (all three). Between buttons coming loose on one, super lag and reboots on the second and the final straw on the third was the screen started having daily stuck pixels I was done with the X.

the locked bootloader alone got me to drop my droid x.

they are close in size, and while the droid x never felt large, the thinness and the rounded edges (not to mention the lack of that weird hump, why does motorola always feel the need to put some odd design in all their phones?) make the fascinate feel tiny in my hands.

glad you're happy with your choice though :)

My phone has been kind of laggy lately which is disheartening. idk if it was when I bought Launcher Pro Plus or what it was. Just going to put up with it until the 2.2 update, which I'm hoping with a factory wipe will make my phone good as new.

I don't fault DroidDev's decision, and after all who am I to question his decision. He pays his own bill (little humor).

I think one of the things about people who post on forums and troll the forums, is we micro-analyze our phones. I am guilty of it, I will admit. I find fault regardless if it is there or not, or realizing fault exists on every handset out there. There isn't one without issues.

I do agree the Fascinate has some irritating bugs at times..and I for one hope that Samsung can squash 99% percent of them on a Froyo Release.

With all that said, and VZW generally denying issues like call quality, gps and signal quality are issues; I truly am curious of what percent of people have problems with their phones...

I've also switched from SF to DX and I've been happy so far. I have to think these are the best two Android phones right now, and I get to play with both as my wife still has her SF. :-)

to those who switched back, were the call quality, gps, and reception the biggest complaints? I have a DX now, and I'm happy with it, but I still like what the fascinate has to offer in terms of hardware.. not the software, and I'm wondering if I should keep my phone. I have no problems with it now, but the grass does seem greener on the other side.

Good luck.

I had the fascinate, but felt that if I didn't try the X I would always wonder. So I did, for a couple weeks and, today I returned the X and am happy to be back on the fascinate. I could have easily been happy with either one, but I'm truly thankfull that they let me trade back. Pick what will be best for you...both are good phones.

I want to go to the X too, as my call quality has gone back to the pits. *22899 works for a little bit but seems to be stubborn and don't want to work.
Can you answer a few questions please?
How is camera when taking pictures inside? How is video? Both picture and video is amazing on fascinate.
Are screens costimizable like the fascinate?
Are transitions smooth? Does it lag?
When viewing picture taken from camera, can you zoom in and out?
How are video games on it?
Can I do a restore from my sd card when reinstalling apps to get my files back?
Sorry for all the questions but one day I'm ready to change and the other day I'm not. The only thing keeping me from jumping ship is the screen on fascinate and thiongs I mentioned above.

camera is alirght, personally i think the 5MP on the fascinate is much better than the one on the droid x. ESPECIALLY at night time. like others have stated, the x looks like you're standing behind a screen door when you take pictures at night. i've been far happier with my fascinate's camera.

screens are customizable, basically in a similar way to the fascinate.

transitions using the x's stock launcher are jerky (testament to motorola's inability to write software to save their lives.) but if you switch to adw or launcher pro, it's smooth (as smooth as the fascinate at least)

video games are essentially the same since most of android's decent games are ports of iphone games, which are built for the omap chip that's found in the droids as well as the iphone 3GS.

going ahead, the hummingbird SOC is going to be better than the omap in the droid line, especially if the ports of iphone games continue, as the iphone4 shares similar hardware to the GS line of phones.

you can zoom into pictures (pinch + double tap)

i don't know if a restore from sd will work, as i've never tried it.

i went from a Dx to a fascinate, and i'm 1000x happier with this phone.

Oh one more thing, again sorry for so many questions, it saves me from searching everywhere.
How is the media player? I cant complain about it on the fascinate as it is amazing. Thanks again.

The media player on the X is pretty good. But the one on the Fascinate is really good. I like the Fascinate as more of a social phone that gets it done. The Droid X as the workhorse that gets it done.
