Simple question: I own SKX, is it worth it to upgrade to SK3? It's currently on sale, and I don't mind getting it if it has a some worthwhile improvements.
My biggest issues with SKX were:
- Prediction bar rarely appears. Mostly in Evernote but I almost never see it anywhere else.
- I would like a 'hotkey' where I can pre-program a specific button to input the same text everytime (such as my long e-mail address which is a chore to keep trying over and over again).

If anyone knows of a different/better keyboard that does have hotkeys and always allows for a prediction bar, let me know! :)

If you own any version of SwiftKey, it should automagically update to the latest version. I was part of the original beta for SK in 2010 and that allowed me to buy it when it went gold for a dollar (say it like Robocop!) and every time it's officially incremented, it shows in my account as SwiftKey X and then SwiftKey 3. The exception is the tablet version is a separate app with separate charge. I bought it when it was on sale, but I'm not crazy about it on my Transformer because of the split keyboard which doesn't really work for me.

They have free 30-day trial versions of the phone and tablet app, but if you have an N7 and already have a version of SK for phone, then just download it and see if it works.

I don't know of any keyboards with macros/hotkeys for what you want.

The paid version of Swiftkey 3 for phones works on the N7. I'm using it now because I can't get used to the split keyboard.

I use SwiftKey 3 for phones on my 7, works fine, and yes if you paid for SwiftKey X it should upgrade you automatically

Oh, hah! I forgot I owned it from Amazon app store, so it showed me 'install' on Google Play site and not 'update', which made me think it was a separate app. :p

I wonder if I should just buy it anyway from Google Play instead of having to deal with it from Amazon app store. Hmm~

Lol I've done that.. When I was newer to android I made the rookie mistake of buying some crucial apps from Amazon. For the small price, I'd say get it from Google :)

For a while there I was getting every Amazon free app of the day, but I decided I was tired of dealing with it and I uninstalled. Now that I have the $25 from getting the N7, I'm just going to look at what I got on Amazon and see what I've missed since I got rid of it. I don't suspect I'll actually find much I can't live without.

The Amazon App Store version is also up to SK3, so just update it from there.

I go to the Amazon web site every day and simply click to "buy" the FAotD to tie it to my account. I barely download a handful of them, but I've got 'em! I have 317 apps in my account. The thing that bugs me is that it wants to update the apps I've installed thru Play. Weird. I have to remember which ones I got from where. The Fancy Widgets I got from A'zon stopped updating, but there was a way to get a key from the dev to unlock the Play version, even if you got the FAotD version. That was nice.

Yeah, I updated it now, but I would like to support the developer and pay for it from Google play. Just wish it had a couple of hot key buttons. :p

My biggest gripe with Amazon is it can take forever for them to push app updates. I'll still check the free app of the day sometimes because you can get some goodies.. But anything important or worthwhile I would by from Play any day.

I'm trying the 30 day trial of SwiftKey X for tablets.... I'm not sure you need it for a 7" tablet. But there is a button to switch from the split keyboard to conventional layout.

I believe I read the reason why, which is they check the code of all apps, to make sure that it's clean and virus-free. I may be wrong on that however, it was a long article about Amazon's policies and why many app developers are upset with them. For reasons such as Amazon not having to ask for permission if they choose to make an app free also the devs see no money at all from all those thousands of free downloads. :(
