Switch from T-Mobile to AT&T sim card - CSR says: "No you can't"

I originally installed a (T-Mobile compatible) Straight Talk sim card on the Nexus 4 but haven't been happy with the coverage. So yesterday, I installed a Straight Talk sim card that's AT&T compatible.

The phone works, but the data doesn't. I just got off the phone with Straight Talk customer service, who says that whatever sim card you put in first - that's the carrier the phone works with - FOREVER. And my phone, because I started out with T-Mobile, is forever a T-Mobile phone, and it won't work with AT&T.

I find this hard to believe. Can anyone confirm this?

Thanks.

Everyone here will confirm that the statement CSR made is completely false......that said, good luck getting a ST AT&T SIM :)

Completely false. Did you create a new apn with the proper settings to support att data? I assume not since you said data was the only part not working.

Name: Straight talk
Apn: att.mvno
Mmsc: http://mmsc.cingular.com
Mms proxy: 66.209.11.33
Mms port:80
Port:80

Ive attached a screenshot too. Keep us updated!

She doesn't know what she's talking about. You will find that very common with phone reps.

Thanks guys - I thought she was full of ****e, and she was.

I figured out the problem - and it's a dumb one - and required another call to Straight Talk customer service. I had the APN set correctly, but I hadn't "selected" it %#%@#! Because it's the only one, a presumed that it was already selected.

I have found that they usually say the things that they do to try and make you buy what they are trying to sell. After all they usually are paid on commission so if they can convince you that what you want to do wont work and that you have to buy their product they will.
