Switching between programs

Is there a way to switch between programs instead of closing current one and opening another?

Try holding the home button down. It works on my phone to bring up recent apps

Thanks so much. That worked perfectly. Àfter 2 years of using a Blackberry, its hard to use Android phone.

there's also an app called SwipePad that let's you setup 12 apps that are used the most.
