switching carriers and want to backup/restore

When we had our iPhones this was a simple process - not sure how hard or possible it is with Android and an S3?

- switching from AT&T to VZW ? and i?d like to take my wife?s S3 and basically buy a new one on Verizon and somehow transfer all of her settings, and apps on the new phone.

What is needed?

My best advice would be to root the phone, get a backup service like Titanium Backup, then back up everything. But... I'm not sure, i've never done that before. Usually when you sign into google on that new phone, google will automatically, by default, load all the apps that you previously downloaded/had. But they don't save the app's data. And as for settings, are you talking about like brightness and stuff like that?

But anyways... that's the best I can do to help I think. Hope that helped a bit. Let us know what happened.

Assuming that you've synced your calendar and contacts with Google, they'll be restored automatically as long as you use the same Google account. Google will remember all the apps you had installed, and you can easily enough re-install them. Since the phone ID will be different, it won't, unfortunately, reinstall them automatically.

Restoring settings is more complicated. I haven't used Kies, but you might want to look into what it will backup. Some apps have their own ability to backup their settings. If you back them up to an SD card, you should be able to put the SD card in the new phone and restore those. As npark suggests, Titanium Backup will do it if you have a rooted phone, but you may not want to go there. Look into Carbon backup:
