Switching over from Windows Phone

I really like the phone, however I think I have a faulty unit. I use an aux cable in my car for both music and calls. (no bluetooth available). When I plug it in there's a horrible crackling sound and the sound is distorted. When I make calls, the person on the other end says I sound distorted and their own voice echos back at them.

So I did a factory reset and bought a new aux cable, but have the same issues. I took my wife's iphone and tested the same thing with her phone and my old windows phone with no issues. So back to AT&T later today and see if they'll swap it out for another one. Ugh, has anyone else had or heard of these issues?

Did you make sure the cable was inserted fully? I know it sounds like a stupid question but the headphone jack was pretty tight when I first got the V20.

Welcome to the other side. I also switched over from a Lumia 735 to the V20. I had become rather tired of the countless disappointments from Windows Mobile.

One note about the AUX cord problem, I also had the same problem as well, but realised that it never fully inserted. I had to put a little bit of push to it to get that final "click," and once I did, it's been fine since.

Its very common where its not inserted properly.
There were some aux cord issues on the G5 for some people depending on the car, however an update fixed it.

I was a diehard Windows Phone user from back in the WinCE days. I tried Android in 2012 for six months, hated it, and switched back. I got tired of the app gap when it comes to my job (I'm in IT) and I will never buy any Apple product so I decided to give Android another shot two years ago.

Like you, I was coming from a 1520. My first Android was a Nexus 6 since the screen size was nearly identical. Switched to an LG V10 when it came out, and then to the V20 last November.

While the 5.7" screen is noticeably smaller (I laugh and roll my eyes at all the Android Central stories that call a 5.5" screen huge), It is still usable. The camera on the V10 was great, while the camera on the V20 is decent, though I suspect it could be improved via a software update.

Overall, the Android experience is much, much better for me than it was in 2012. I am all about the Google ecosystem now. I bought an Android Auto head unit for my car, got an Android Wear watch, bought a Chromecast to stream from my phone or Nexus 9 tablet to my TV, etc. I love it now.

I keep hoping someone will make another 6"+ screen; it looks like the Samsung Galaxy S8+ will have one, but that will probably not have a replaceable battery, which is a huge selling point for the V series for me.

I'm not following you on that one. Are you saying phone prices should be going up every year because each year there is new hardware?

Of the two, from what we know so far, I'd be more willing to buy a new pixel than an s8, but Samsung might surprise us at the announcement.

High end phones have peaked at the moment. The best buys out there right now are not the latest and greatest. 2016 top tier phones are more than adequate. When the S8 breaks the market the S7 or S7E and other comparable phones will be a tremendous value.

So I've been a die hard windows phone user since wp7. However, my Lumia 1520 is dying a quick and painful death and I'm thinking of trying the lg v10. I haven't used android since way back when it was donut. it was the worst experience ever and i swore never again.

With all that said, would you recommend the lg v10? Any other recommendations? I've used to the large screen of the 1520 and prefer the size of atleast a note. i'm with at&t however so that not really an option. Any help for this android noob is greatly appreciated!

No no no. The V10 is an excellent device until it bootloops and trust me there's a good chance that it will. I'm telling you from experience not only from myself but my brother-in-law and a few Instagram friends who all had to get a second unit at some point. The V20 is a much better and well rounded choice or the newer G6. Very nice feel in the hand. I'm only vouching for LG since that's what I've been using the last two years but of course there are a lot of great choices out there right now.

Nice reading there are other prior 1520 users here. It was a great phone and Windows Phone 8 was an amazing OS. Too bad WP8 never went anywhere. Microsoft did some wonderful work but it was mostly experimental. Windows Phone 10 just copied Android but lacked the app ecosystem.

I think the V20 is one of the best replacements out there for the 1520.
