Switching to Note 3 from iPhone 5

Once I'm comfortable with the phone, I'll experiment with different things. From what I've been watching on video, the os systems are pretty similar. It sucks because I have to wait, I have no droid to play with in the meantime.

Is it safe to root, it won't screw up your phone?

It will make your warranty invalid but you can reverse the process. There is a slight risk of bricking your phone...... :-|

You don't need it really. And it ain't as straight forward thing with the Note3 as it used to be. Samsung has changed it so that there is a counter, and it will be screwed up if you touch to the firmware. The hackers don't know (yet) how to reset it, so you'll lose the warranty even if you try to restore the stock rom.

Ya, that would be my luck. Jail breaking same thing, my son did it to his iPod, fortunately it was a soft brick and we were able to recover.

I really wouldn't want to screw up the phone, especially being so expensive. There's probably no need to anyway. I'll be getting a lot more than I have now.

There is a flash counter reset now. You can do it thru recovery or there is an app for it.
You can reverse the root/rom process with no trace of the firmware ever being touched.
With rooting- all you need to do is follow SPECIFIC directions and you'll be fine.
Read up on everything before jumping into anything! Make sure you are confident about the whole process.

It is true that a user doesn't need to root/rom as much anymore.
With Project butter making things very smooth and 4.3 with TRIM support cleaning up all junk files it makes the devices very snappy and easy to use!
Although root apps are nice ..

Any link or where to find the flash counter reset and or app? You are talking about going from 0x1 to 0x0 or another type of reset?

Ok Yea most Samsung devices can be wiped with no trace of modification
The following are examples of what I am saying. DO NOT DOWNLOAD THESE TO YOUR DEVICE UNLESS YOU HAVE READ THAT THEY ARE COMPATIBLE
Again this is JUST AN EXAMPLE as to what I'm saying. Please do not brick your device!

If it's your first android losing... I wouldn't worry about rooting and ROMs. The phone itself will blow you away :).

Good news, I made the switch for you.

I actually had the iphone 4 and 4s (3 years).. I was also nervous about jumping ship. My main reason was screen size, I felt very trapped. I watched a ton of videos to work up the courage and then bought it.

If you have any doubts, let them go now. I had no idea what I was missing and I'll never look at the iphone the same.

Here are some selling points that I can give:

- Side by side, the retina display on my iphone looks horrible and white-washed
- The stylus on the note 3 writes as fast as you can and it perfectly smooth (no jagged squiggles)
- The screen is simply amazing. Videos, browsing, games.. you might need sunglasses to play candy crush
- The software on the phone is actually software. I look back at the iphone and it seems like a safety bubble composed of boring tiles and lame settings
- Note 3 has split window features to run 2 apps at the same time, you can also minimize apps and drag them around the screen to use later

I really could go on and on, but just trust me that you will be completely enamored by the phone. It may be difficult for one hand use, but there is also a swipe feature that will shrink the screen to iphone size temporarily to help reach something if you really cant get to it. The software is very impressive.

You'll never look back. You will only start to stare at people with iphones and feel bad for them.

DO IT.

I am going tomorrow to check out the Note 3. I am almost sold on it. Love the idea of the removable back (extended batteries FTW). And the microSDXC.

I have had this iPhone 4 for what seems like forever. I've lurked in the forums for a while, and I'm just soooo ready for a larger screen. I like iOS and the ecosystem, but I'm not tied to it like some are.

My last Android was the Droid X. I liked that device, even rooted it an installed some custom screen savers and notification icons. Never did a custom Rom though. I hope the VZW Note 3 gets ROM-able so I can try JellyBeans.

It's a big decision choosing a device you're going to use every day. Leaning towards the Note 3. I gotta feel/touch it first though.

i am also want to switch from my iphone 5 to note 3 and also iphone 5 s
but i am nervous about the samsung quality is not able to stand against apple one .
the main reason is apple is simple sleek n nice but there are lots of complain regarding to samsung mobile phones and poor service
and many guys says that samsung works just a month or 2 fine after that starts hanging and poor response .....
so a little bit confused for buying samsung note 3 or iphone 5s
i phone 5s just works same as iphone 5 in maximum app performance
...

Welcome to the Note 3, a real work/pleasure phone.

I think the main difference is the way you can customize the phone.
Custom keyboards (swiftkey), custom notification (floating notification), sidebars (smart taskbar 2) on which you can launch apps from every other app.

But also the integration between apps. You can share texts between apps. So select a text, and browse this on the internet, or to translate to another language, ect.

You can even have floating windows (floating widgets app), so you work with more apps at the same time. Or have multi window, to watch a video and take notes, or browse the internet at the same time.

Personally (Note 2 user), it's all in one phone. On work i can take handwritten notes on meetings. Keep my contact with full information. Or just play with it and browse youtube movies. Or watch a movie while working out. The big screen is ideal for all of this.

For many of the iphone app, there are good Android apps or replacement apps.

Two weeks into note 3 from 50 and living it but I've spent hours getting used to it. Here's one I can figure. The volume control from the home page toggles the sound from mute to vibrate to sound. It's too easy for me to hit it and before I know it my note is on mute and I miss a call. Cam this be disabled? Thanks

I use the app Volume Locker for this.

Thanks. I installed volume locker but cannot find the setting which prevents the volume bar from changing the mute/vibrate/sound setting. Can you tell me where it is? Thanks

In the standard sms app on the note 3 the keyboard does not have a ? Key. I ask a lot of questions in texts. I'd like a short cut so I get a ?In one stroke rather than 3. How can I do that?

If you push and hold the period key a little dialog will pop up with a question mark.

You should also take a look at switkey, as it is a much better keyboard.
