Switching to Note 8

Just picked up my new Note 8. I really wanted to love the Pixel 2 XL which I had for the last week. I just couldn't deal with it though for the price. I feel like Google cut a lot corners on the P2XL to increase their profits and a sub-par display in an $850 flagship device is unacceptable.

$686 before taxes with the $250 off deal for Verizon at Best Buy. Amazing for everything you get with the Note 8.

Exactly the same for me. I have a note8 . My 2xl arrives next week. The note is wonderful, except for the Samsung/ Google duplication in some apps. To get some things to work I have to log into both Google and Samsung. I expected a powerful beautiful phone. The note 8 is that. I did not expect Google/samsung confusion. The note 8 is that. I'm hoping the 2xl is beautiful and powerful and simple.

Note 8 will always lag behind in software. Always stuck with ugly skin, and bloated useless features and apps. It feels almost as smooth as Pixel 2 right now, but it will slow down significantly in the coming months to make wave for the next Galaxy S. Note 8 will be outdated very quick by the S9. Note 8 forums will be filled with questions about how to root and use third part apps to have similar features of Pixel, while no Pixel owner is asking for useless Samsung gimmicks.

When the S9 come out, it will still lag behind the Pixel 2 in software, OS snappiness, most likely still behind Pixel 2 in camera performance. The only saving Grace for Samsung is their beautiful OLED and heavy carrier discounts.

Meanwhile Pixel 2 will remain the smoothest Android phone for the next 12 months until Pixel 3 comes out in October 2018.

Yeah, I am sticking with TeamPixel. I was sold after I found the original Pixel couple months ago.

Don't believe me? Look at the used phone values and performance slow down between Pixel and S7/S7Edge. We all "wish" one day Samsung will wake up and provide the software updates, but they never do. This will not change folks. Not for the Note 8.

Lol, asking for Pixel features? What Pixel features would we want? The crappy display?
We've had everything since the Note 2.

Note has everything the Pixel has and them some. Minus the garbage display.

Google Pixel fanboys are hilarious

Lol, and then he says the S9 will outdate the Note8, when the S9 is said to bring 4GB RAM again and FPS at the back again.

The only thing that outdates a Note is another Note, the Note5 still has features like Wireless Charging, a top of the line display, 3.5mm jack and SPen with SPen suite. Things some phones even in 2017 don't have

I have to be honest, the consistent screen issues have gotten to me. I can ignore the blue tint, the sRGB colors, but the latest reports of burn-in, I just don't want to deal with it anymore. I will most likely exchange it, and the only other viable alternative is Note 8.

For people that switched from N8, can you tell me why? I purposefully didn't put the question up in Note 8 forum, as I want to hear opinions of people that prefer 2XL over N8 in concept...

If I had the opportunity to trade my Pixel 2 xl for the Note 8 I would.

Google has shown they don't care about customers. I'm so ticked off at Google may not buy another product from them.

Are you out of the return period already? Why don't you return it then?

Also, have you seen the latest on the screen stuff? If you hate your screen then it won't matter to you. If you're like me, and think the screen is fine except for the dull colors, then there is an update for that coming.

Good luck

Damaged Sim tray new out of box. Google said not our problem Buy another or replace under insurance for $100.
.
Replacement on the way...want to buy it?
.
I haven't even used a Pixel 2 xl and hate Google.
.
What will change after I add other defective problems to the POS Pixel list.
.
Have owned Note phones for years. They all have problems... but Google really stinks today.

Sounds like a bunch of Samsung fanboi trolls. You know the Note and Galaxies turn into lag fest in a short period of time, especially when the next big thing comes out. I have been using Samsung forever, and Samsung has never failed to turn slightly older phones into stutter machines. Actually they have never produced a single handset as smooth as any Pixel straight out of the box. This is especially true with US spec handset using Qualcomm SoC. Their software works better with Exynos.
I've owned mostly Exynos, so this lag you speak of must be on Snapdragon, although my old Note 4 is Snapdragon and still running well. :)

Fact of the matter is that not all our experiences are the same, so don't go around putting opinions as facts. For some they have lagged for others they haven't.

What we can say for certain now is that Pixel 2 XL has a terrible Display and the normal Pixel has good quality units.

Samsung phones lag. That's just been the way it's been since the beginning. My s7e lagged out of the box and still does. My note 4 would get a factory reset every 6 months to get it back to not performing like crap, but it was still my favorite phone ever. I think it's worth mentioning that the lag we're talking about is milliseconds, or even just dropped frame rates. I bought Samsung phones over and over because the lag didn't bother me enough to overlook the fact that they were the best phone on the market.

All that being said, the note 8 is easily faster than any Samsung phone I've ever seen out of the box. Let's not act like anybody switching from the pixel to the note will be getting this horrible, laggy software experience. It's held up well since it's release and there's no reason to think it will change.

The pixel hardware may not be as nice but the software experience is second to none. Pick whichever one you like, you really can't go wrong with either.

This sounds frustrating but paints a different picture than other Google support success stories I've seen. An immediate example - my girlfriend's Pixel 2 camera app was crashing when she tried using the front-facing camera and after a quick call with Google, a replacement was overnighted to her and that resolved the issue.

Google also stepped up and extended the warranty of the 2 and 2 XL another year after all the various complaints about new Pixels.

Were you polite and reasonable when interacting with support? I know it can be tough when you're frustrated but you'll get farther if you treat the person trying to help you properly.

Until the Note 8. What a screamer. So fast and so smooth, and seems it will be well into the future., especially with 6 GB of RAM. If you actually had a Note 8 for a week you'd toss the Pixel off a bridge.

I definitely disagree :P.

No... Lol just no. See all phones have compromises. Getting a pixel you compromise on having complete bleeding edge hardware, however your software experience can't be matched. Now on the note series there is no doubt their hardware is impeccable, top of the class, etc. However their software experience (IE: Touchwiz) is kind of mehhh. It's getting better, but it still can't match the pixel on performance. To each their own though, different strokes for different folks! 😉

Except for that fingerprint scanner location, its terrible!! ;)

Nope, not all of our experiences are the same either.
