Swype and the thunderbolt

I downloaded your swype apk with my dropbox acct and downloaded it thru there, works fantastic. Thanks for the tip.

So I removed Swype and the install program... then loaded the EVO version... so far everything works. SMS's are working... so why does Swype consider this a device issue?

How do you get the EVO version?

I registered for the beta and they sent me a download link. I installed the installer and logged in and downloaded Swype. It didn't offer any choices other than full or something else.

I went through the tutorial and it worked fine and I set the phone down on the desk. The phone rebooted itself. A little later I tried to use Swype and it just gave two beeps when I tried to enter a word. I started the tutorial and when the tutorial showed a word being entered it only beeped twice. I uninstalled everything and rebooted the phone and reinstalled Swype and it just gives two beeps when entering anything as before.

Have you gone into Applications, enabled Swype, then gone into email, long hold on an input area and then chosen Swype as the input method?

Because the problem only shows up with the TB Sense SMS application according to all the posts on the beta site. It works correctly on my TB, zero problems but I don't use the SMS app. Others who have installed Handcent also are not having problems. As SMS belongs to either HTC or Verizon, then that would pretty much point the finger. Eh?

Oh yea I forgot to mention I use handcent and not the stock sms app. So maybe that's why I never seem to have issues.

Back on Post #43 and a few other posts since they have a few links going to New Version of Swype for HTC Evo

This version works... the current BETA does not... maybe some others have older versions, but I can not recommend the current BETA.

Really????... sorry, but keyboards need to work on EVERY application. My point is that I have an older version (EVO) and it works... now with a new device it does not work... loading a third party SMS app is not my idea of something that works correctly.

Really???? Lets see, phone has been out less than two weeks, there are...what...3 gazillion cellphones on the market, and you expect a BETA software to work instantly on every one of them with no problems?

Hardly reasonable. If you had to pay $20 for it I'd agree.

Froyo is that new????

I posted and have read a bit about this on Swype's forum... and the only thing that seems to come from Swype is that we are suppose to complain to someone else like Verizon or HTC... and I've emailed a few others, like HTC and they all say we need to talk to the programmers... personally, I agree and think we should go back Swype.

And yes, I know it's a BETA!!!

Was just messing around with my wife's TB. She loved her Swype keyboard so I got the Swype Beta for her and thanks to this thread I found Handcent. Thank you.

Auto spacing and Auto Caps was not working, but then I found that in the Swype options (which I didn't know existed) their were settings checks for Auto Spacing and caps. I checked them both off and now it works fine.

So for all TB users having issues with Swype in texting. I suggest the Swype Beta, Handcent App, and make sure you go into the settings to turn on auto spacing and caps.

Swype says that their app correctly respects the settings on a text field, and that HTC/Verizon/Whoever has incorrectly set their SMS field to disallow spacing and capitalization. To "fix" it they'd have to intentionally break that logic, which would screw up places you actually want no spacing, like web URLs.

So HTC really does need to correct this.

No, HTC should fix it... but the programmer's of Swype need to work it out with HTC... not us asking HTC, or us asking Swype... I emailed HTC already... and left numerous posts on Swype's website... it looks like it's not going to happen over night.

I saw this thread pop back up on the first page... so I thought I'd comment on my old posts here.

After reading some of the comments here a month or so back I loaded SwiftKey Keyboard to try out... I'm always open to other applications and ideas... I'm tired of trying to figure out who's issue this is with the auto-capitalization or the auto-spacing (I don't care if it's a Swype issue, or a Verizon issue, or even an HTC issue), and what version to download and use... I'll use SwiftKey.

I had been using the Swype for the HTC Evo apk, but now that I'm on a Gingerbread leak I thought I'd try out the current beta again. Guess what...it works. The only problem is when you reboot your phone you have to re-enable the swype keyboard.

*Swype acknowledged that the keyboard resetting is a problem introduced with quickboot (or something like that) and is not unique to the Thunderbolt. They are working a fix.*

I gave up on Swype and am using FlexT9 which is killer and I like much better. It is from they guys who make dragon speaking. It has Swype style input, voice recognition, typing, and also a paint type input for drawing a letter. The voice input is killer. They send the voice file to their servers for conversion to text and it really works. Speaking clearly I can do a paragraph is a few seconds. Getting the app for the desk top.
