Synch my Mac Address Book using my Gmail account?

I read in an earlier tutorial thread (originally from 2009) about synching a Mac address book to an Android phone using your Gmail account. I set the synch up on my Mac but after I signed in to Gmail, nothing happened. I tripled checked my password so that is not the problem.

My Mac won't recognize my Nexus S in iSync when I connect via USB (although it appears as a hard drive), so I am at a loss as to how to synchronize my contact list.

Can someone help?

Thanks.

try exporting your contacts from your address book (select all - file - export to vcard - save) then go to google contacts, click more actions, import, then upload your file.

that should work.

Thanks, but that will only move my existing contacts to Gmail. It won't keep the two address books synched though. When I had my Pre I did exactly that and then had to manually keep the two lists updated. (If, for example, someone gives me their number while I am out I enter it into the phone. If I want to keep my Mac address book current I then need to re-enter the new contact myself.)
