T-mobile $30 Unlimited data, Text, 100Min Voice

This may be useful...tmobiles network is so much faster/more stable than virgins it's night and day...my only concern would be about att attempting to eat them up and then killing off any plans like this. Has there been any news on the merger? Please tell me they can't do it!

If all I wanted was a PDA, I would jump on this. But 100 minutes a month is just not enough, and I'm a very light phone user.

If this option applies to tablets, hmmmm.

I can care less about the 100 mins. I can set up GrooVeIP+Google Voice right? And Can you tether and if I go over that cap of 5GBs of 4G speeds do they charge you anything extra or is it just like VM, where you pay $25 for everything no hidden fees?

It doesn't matter which way the AT&T deal goes, T-Mobiles future is uncertain. I doubt the deal will go through though, too many states and agencies are opposing it, especially after the emails were leaked.

It's owned by an investment firm so they WILL want to sell it off. If not AT&T, then who?
I would love to see Sprint get it, as would many others. It would put Sprint more in AT&T and Verizon's league if they did, but I don't know if they could. I know Verizon was kinda sorta hinting at maybe possibly, but I'm not sure that would go over much better.

Granted most anything that happens will take at least a year, but I don't want to spend $400 on a phone just to have to retire it after a year.

I thought the deal was if the merger didn't go through, AT&T had to pay Deutsch-Telecom something like 6 million

Exactly what I'm afraid of...thinking about getting the G S II and that thing retail for $700. Would hate to throw the phone away WHEN something does happen to t-mobile...

The Optimus Black is a good phone for VM, but compare it to other carriers...there is no comparison ;)

BILLIONS if the deal doesn't go through. Also AT&T promised they wouldn't kill any of the T-Mobile plans.

I wanted the OB too but looks like the Nexus S can be had under $300 so I might be switching to TMO after all. I'd love to get the SGS2 or Prime but $300 is my limit.

Also I am wondering if you are capped after using 5GB of 4G data only? Maybe if you use only 3G than it won't get capped at all?

Is that really a simple/seamless option? I sort of understand how it works, but it seems like a PITA workaround. Instead of just simply dialing your phone when you need to make a call without worrying about your minutes.

I'm just waiting.
I figure by the time the OB comes out I will know what I am going to do and hopefully know what will happen with T-Mobile.

I'm looking at either the OB, this plan, and Simple Mobile. My rate will go up with the last two, but if this plan gets roaming, I'll pay the extra when I go over, otherwise I will probably be looking at either VM OB or Simple Mobile.

It's really annoying how they all use such different frequencies, it certainly limits your movement and what phones you can use. I REALLY wish VM would let you bring your own. While not the fastest or the greatest support, they have been good to me over the years in terms of spending. I'm just tired of being handed crap or outdated phones and being expected to thank them for it.

The OB is a step in the right direction, as was the OV, but they sure are taking their sweet time with the OB. It was a bit behind when it debuted and then they wait 9 months to a year? Come on. And don't get me started on the Triumph. The new HTC, great, but where was it 9 months ago when it woudl have been a phone VM users could be truly proud of?

I get that they don't want to support every phone out there, but how about it as an option for those who want it and accept the responsibility.

You can set Groove up to use the native dialer.

I don't like the way it has a connection delay but it is relatively seamless to actually use. It's not really clunky or weird.

Yeah I might be switching to T Mobile if this really is 5GB of 4G for $30. 100 minutes is a little extreme, on average I use about 150-200 minutes a month. I think it would be a better plan with 200 minutes.

It is bring your own phone so I will be having lots of fun with my Cyanogenmod 6 T Mobile Original Mytouch 3G. I'm hoping it won't be too slow for me. I'm going to buy a galaxy s after I get the plan.

I'll still be a tester for the Optimus because I don't plan on selling this phone.

How would one go about finding out definitively what phones are usable with this plan, and what current prices are, new and used?

Or, what would is an example of a top tier phone, a mid level one, and a budget one?

I picked up a slightly used LG G2X for $225, $75 less than I would have paid for the Triumph, if it weren't a POS!

I usually use around 150 minutes a month, so I'll have about $5 in overages, thus paying about $35 a month. $10 more than I pay now, and the same as a new customer would pay on VM, but with speads that blow VM out of the water! My friend on TMO is getting 10, and sometimes 15 times faster speeds than me. Going to check it out on the 16th with a new number, and if it all works, port before my VM month is up!

I've got to get my friend to download GroveIP so I can see how well it works on TMO 3G+/4g!

Nice. Let us know how it goes. That G2X looks pretty sweet too.

Simple Mobiles website has a FAQ that explains which phones will work and how to find what others will or won't.

Sorry to burst your bubble but unless you live in a 4g area all you are going to get is 2g.
I fail to see why you wouldn't get 3g if 4 wasn't available, so long as the phone worked on that frequency.

It's illogical to ONLY lock them to 2 and 4g, bypassing 3.
Especially when 4g is just a modified 3g to begin with.

my tmobile store had a small section devoted to a wall that described this new plan, and a bunch of demo phones under that. something i thought was weird was that all the demo phones were low to mid range Android or blackberrys. but the poster explicitly advertised 4G network and speeds. I'm fairly certain the optimus T is a 3G only phone, as well as the blackberrys they had. none of these were cutting-edge new phones.

am I missing something? is a tmobile phone with only a 3G radio on their frequency enough to receive 4G speeds. or is their advertising all wrong?!

I'm pretty sure the Optimus T is not a phone with a 4G radio in it. so why sell it as one?

I heard 4g is messing with gps and emergency frequencies, there fore they were discontinuing it is this true?

No, one company, clearwire I believe, is building out a wholesale 4g network but the frequencies they are using interfere with gps but they say the have found a fix. This has nothing to do with T-mobile.
