T-mobile $30 Unlimited data, Text, 100Min Voice

my cousin has simplemobile. he tried to be all cool saying he has 3g. i showed him my speed with prepaid t-mobile.. made him cry :3

i switch to t-mobile. 30 bucks. it is pretty fast. i like it. average download speed is 1MB. upload is 290Kb. when i first activated my g1 with it. i was only getting 400 kb down/up. but it seems to have fixed itself. though i wish there was a harmonia rom for my g1. hint hint >.>

I loved Virgin dearly with my Optimus V, but there were a few things that just drove me away and eventually to Tmobile prepaid 30 bucks a month.

1: 3G data speeds. They are simply horrendous. Sprint is clearly having some serious issues in the 3g department and the speeds across the board really show it. Even the iPhone 4s is having issues. That's not Virgin's fault, more the parent companies fault. I was only getting about 400 kbps down tops in great service areas. I'm getting about 2.4 mbps down with Tmobile average. That's fantastic for prepaid. I've also gone over about 2.5 gigs for the month already with the 30 dollar a month plan with no slow down to speak of.

2. The phones. Like I said earlier, I love the Optimus V, but I was ready for something new. The Triumph was a no go, and the Wildfire and the Optimus Slider are low end at best. I wanted a truly powerful android device. They need to get some more powerful phones fast or they're going to lose speed and fall behind Tmobile.

I really wanted to get a G2x and I spent several days looking around, but they were upwards of $350 used from shady sellers. After a while, the MT4g I bought came up on eBay Used but in PERFECT condition for $215 from a seller with 7000+ reputation [$75 cheaper than the triumph, LOL] and I had it shipped overnight for $15 [ I'm an impatient SoB, lol]. Came in this morning with my activation kit, activated it on the $30 5GB Data plan, put in my 16GB SD, bought GrooveIP & gV to make up for the lack of minutes, installed all my apps from Amazon & AppMonster Backup and it's been running like a charm on the HSPA+ network. It runs so nice I might not even root it.

I have my Otterbox coming in from Amazon tomorrow [$20 on sale ] and i cut up my TouchPad screen protector to fit the phone :D

After I read what this I was excited and brought myself with a used MT4g and try to use the activation kit ($6.99) I brought from T mobile (no contact phone) web page to activate the T-mobile $30 Unlimited, text, 100 min voice plan online but came up with NO SUCCESS. I input sim card and device number into t-mobile web page and it allowed me to choose the new T-mobile $30 Unlimited, text, 100 min voice plan but when came to the final step, message of "sorry...activation in precess.." came up and there is a phone number showed up for me to call t-moble to check out what is going on. I called t-mobile and told the representative AGAIN and AGAIN that I fail to activate the T-mobile $30 Unlimited, text, 100 min voice plan and as I know this plan can only activate online. Rep knew about the plan but told me that he can activate me into SOME PLAN first and then he will send a request to his supervisor to change me to the T-mobile $30 Unlimited, text, 100 min voice plan. I told him again and again that this T-mobile $30 Unlimited, text, 100 min voice plan activation can only be done ONLINE. Then I make a big mistake for trusting the rep can help me change plan later. I wait and wait and check my t-mobile account online and it still haven't change. Call in again and again some told me to wait longer and finally a rep told me that sim card brought from t-moble no contact phone webpage is not compatible for the T-mobile $30 Unlimited, text, 100 min voice plan and those compatible sim kit would contain ~$5 of credit in it while $6.99 from t-moble webpage only carry ~$3 of startup credit. Thus she told me she cannot help and found no note in the system that there was a rep once requested to his supervisor about my issue for changing plan. She told me to go to walmart to get sim activation kit but base on my experience Walmart only sell sim card + phone for this plan. It seem to me that I need to go to Walmart and get a sim card + phone package to make this thing work. Those of you that brought $6.99 sim activation kit from t-moble webpage would you please let me know how you can activate this plan. Thanks

i bought this,

Amazon.com: T-Mobile Sim Card Prepaid Kit: Cell Phones & Accessories

had no problem activating it. quick and easy. but i had bought four different phones from tmobile. MT4G/MT3G slide. LG Optimus T, And HTCG1. all of them froze on boot loop o.o i guess it's a sign to stay with virgin for me >.>

I though simple mobile was unlimited data. What plan is it?

i was on the $40 3G plan hit 4gb when they cut me off and wouldn't tell me why so i sold the sim card, and bought 2 t mobile simcards im gonna activate one when i get paid this thursday and use groove ip for calls over 3G, i just hope groove ip works with tytung's gingerbread 3.2a i have no wifi around so i really cant test it :/

another thing im interested in is tytung's port of t-mobiles own wifi calling app, it does basically the same thing as groove ip but only under wifi and it uses your t mobile number, but doesn't use minutes.

Any ideas on why I can't get a better quality call with Groove IP? I've tried tweaking every possible option, followed the advise from the website, but nothing. I have good signal from wifi at home and still, the quality is terrible. I have resorted to using Skype for outgoing calls. But as far as incoming... don't know what to do

I decided to try this plan yesterday, I went to walmart and bought a samsung sparq for $49.99. It came with $3.33 of airtime, so you have to buy $26.67 of airtime upon activation to get the $30 dollar plan. I have a Samsung Vibrant from my old "contract" days, after I activated the sim and plan, I just popped it in there. I have great reception in NE Florida and we do have "HSPA+" I was getting 6mbs download 1 mbs upload consistently throughout the day. That's definitely better than 300kbps down and 250kbps up that I was getting with the OV and Virgin Mobile.

The only problem that I had was that all Tmobile Prepaid plans had "Web Guard" On by default. This means you can't go to certain sites such as Facebook, Twitter or even Android Market. There is an option to turn it off online, once you set up your account, but I did receive errors trying to turn it off. I called 611 and had tech support turn it off. They told me it could take up to 24 hours for the feature to be turned off. It's been 12 hours and the feature is still on. So I'll monitor that today.

Groove IP worked great on 3G/4G, the low ping and high speed helps a lot. Ultimately, if I can get through 1 month on 100 min, I'll port my Virgin Mobile number to Google Voice.

Hope this helps some people out.

I'm getting terrible call quality with Grooe IP, even at home with wifi. Any ideas why?

You are describing only half of the hassle I went through in activating this plan; tried the amazon activation kit, tried the T-Mobile.com activation kit, was told to try it with a different browser, nothing worked and had the same issues with customer no-service (thank God both Amazon and T-Mobile were quick with refunds- no questions asked). Eventually I went to Walmart and bought the cheapest prepaid T-Mobile phone they had, came home and tried to activate the sim card on T-Mobile.com, no luck. Tried again online, no luck. But this time it wouldn't let me input the activation code, I felt this was hopeful since maybe the activation had been started... called them on the phone and sure enough the plan was activated and they gave me a phone number. Happy with the plan except the 100 minutes were gone in the first 4 days of the month and I haven't been able to figure out Groove IP for free minutes. I'm getting a horrible connection quality, the other party cannot hear me, and overall it sounds staticky and crackly. Not sure if it was worth all the trouble.
If anybody has a good troubleshooting method for Groove IP please help!!

Is this plan still available?

Edit: Nevermind, found it xD its on Tmo's No Contract page. I think it's a great plan. Might go for that and leave my grandfathered $40 VM plan.

I'm currently under the $60 prepaid plan for tmobile (unlimited min &txt and 2gb of data). Barely use 100 minutes since i have a second phone (company phone where i have everything unlimited and GV, which i use as my main #). Company phone is a blackberry Tourch, so not really good for browsing.

Question is, can i call t-mobile rep and just get the $30 100 min unlimited text and 5gb data?

Thanks in adavace..

BTW I will be using it on the G2X.

Considered this plan and GrooveIP for myself and my wife - but found GrooveIP unserviceable for calls on anyhting but Wifi - and even iffy at that at times.

Settled for now on sticking with my grandfathered $40 plan - the difference is only 10 bucks and I get 1100 more minutes. I even tried using a mifi for a few days to see if that was any better - it was worse.

Just not a viable replacement for voice service yet.
