T mobile 4g $30 plan > Sprint unlimited plans??

They say no roaming charges because that's the marketing spin of having no roaming. You don't get charged because you don't have it.

You need to find out if the areas you travel have Tmo coverage because you will either be on the Tmo network or not have service, except for Wifi.

I guess I am clueless about roaming then. I thought roaming just meant that you travel outside of your designated "home area" (Long island, generally speaking for me). So what you are saying is you just have no service if you travel somewhere where there is no Tmobile service then you don't have service? So I could go to California and as long as they have Tmobile service there, I am good? (With both voice and data).

Yeah, anyplace you go within the US that has Tmobile towers, you can connect just the same as if you were at home.

These carrier maps aren't always accurate, but should give you a good idea. You can always do a google search on a particular city if you have concerns.

Also might want to check out this bit of "breaking news" from Android Central, looks very interesting. I don't know that I can use it, T-Mobile data coverage where I am really sucks (EVDO speeds are the best I get), though AT&T prepaid I get 4G pretty much everywhere.

They won't offer HotSpot to the unlimited users because it'd be too easy to pay $15 for tethering and then us 100's of GB a month fully within their ToS.

Don't listen to these T-Mobile heads lol sprint has benefits like bill delay as in if u know u can't pay the bill on time u let sprint know ahead of time and they will lock in what u owe at that time and let u pay later very helpful if u are self employed Verizon cut me off for 5 bucks and tmobile sucks in my area inside buildings

Tmobile is pretty cheap and fast, and remember its gsm which means u can use it around the world additionally if you ever want to sell your phone it will be easier as most of the world uses gsm

all i can say is i moved from sprint to tmobile and i couldnt be happier. Once you pay off your device on the value plans, they are WAY cheaper than sprint, and now (well... soon) tmobile will have really unlimited too. just my 2 cents.

That non roaming thing is bugging me. I was in Virginia a few weeks ago and my phone was working just fine but EVERYONE who had tmobile was barely getting a signal. Im not talking West Virginia, Im talking Busch Gardens populated Virginia.

I guess im stuck with Verizon.

Could always look at the MVNOs that operate on AT&T, like Straight Talk.

I am seriously considering cancelling my Verizon contract and ordering the GSM Nexus from the Play Store. Am I correct in that there is no way to port my current phone number over to a prepaid monthly T-Mobile plan? It's a small trade off for no carrier shenanigans, just want to make sure.

As long as you allow enough time for your number to port over before cancelling your Verizon account, it should be no problem.

You can't have perfect service everywhere. AT&T is pretty good across the country, but in areas where you have comparable T-Mobile signal, T-Mobile will almost always be noticeably faster. That's the tradeoff between the two, coverage vs. speed.

I just went to Straight Talk AT&T from T-Mobile Monthly 4G because I moved and need better coverage. I went from 5-8mbps down on T-Mobile to 1-2mbps down on AT&T, but there are several places where I get full 4 bars of HSPA+ where I used to maybe get 1 bar of EDGE on T-Mo. 1mbps down on AT&T is a hell of a lot faster than timing out every data transfer on 1 bar of EDGE . If I never left the city, I'd be all over T-Mobile, their speeds are absolutely fantastic in the metro area. Once you get off the beaten path even a little, the coverage gets spotty.

I live in a suburb of Seattle though, which just like New York has pretty poor AT&T performance (loooooots of iPhones). Everyone has different experiences with AT&T. There are people who I've talked to that easily pull 5-8mbps on them just like I did on T-Mo.

I checked on youtube and surprisingly tmobile was getting exactly what I get on verizon. Thats about 10 down in NYC. I was shocked as I always was under the impression that tmobile sucked.
