T mobile 4g $30 plan > Sprint unlimited plans??

I really appreciate that. I see no reason to not make the switch now as that was my only concern. Thanks so much.

I am seriously considering cancelling my Verizon contract and ordering the GSM Nexus from the Play Store. Am I correct in that there is no way to port my current phone number over to a prepaid monthly T-Mobile plan? It's a small trade off for no carrier shenanigans, just want to make sure.

I just did this last month with no problem. Ported from Verizon to T-mobile prepaid. It took about 6 hours after I made the call for it to complete. I suggest calling during normal US business hours in the morning. You will need your Verizon account number, which is different from your phone number, and you can find it on your bill or online at My Verizon. You will also need your billing pin/passcode. If you do not have one, just tell them that. I didn't have one and it was not a problem. If you don't remember if you ever set one, you can go to My Verizon online and look under your profile. My own account on Verizon is disable now so I can't go look at exactly where it is or what it is called but I remember somewhere when I went to edit my profile I saw it there. But if you can't find it, you can call Verizon.

You won't regret it. I predict sprint will take a big hit in the next year. Their speeds are terrible making their only benefit (unlimited data) worthless. Their lte roll out is a joke currently. They have no perks like one year upgrades anymore. And as more and more people are seeing the savings in prepaid, this will affect sprint the most because sprint customers are cheap. That's why they are (we were) with sprint to begin with.

By the way Vonage is a great app to make calls with; if you want to conserve minutes. Its free to make calls and the call quality is excellent.

You need to check out other non contract like straight talk, walmart family mobile or simple mobile. I Switched from sprint a month ago with an unlocked GN and I've been loving it. Simple mobile also allows incoming international text for free. They just dropped their plan from $60 to $50 recently

Let us know how your signal is inside your home.

T mobile tends to be quite problematic in that sense

If that ends up being the case have them send you a free cel-fi device. Tmo works fine for me indoors without the device. YMMV.

cel-fi?

Is that anything like WiFi calling? If that's it, it sucks with t mobile.

If you mean the signal booster, they offered me that, then wouldn't give me one because I "live in an apartment" WTF?

I wish I never left Sprint. Better service overall

No, not wifi calling.

So tell them you live in a house. Will probably only screw up the neighbors if they happen to be on gsm.

That's a potentially deadly thing to "screw up." The reason it's not allowed in an apt is because 911 calls can not be located properly.

It was my understanding (directly from T-Mobile at the store and online) that the $30 per month plan had to be purchased through WalMart. Soooo, off to WalMart I marched, and they only offered it on phones purchased from them.

Anyone know a way around this ? I did get a "normal" T-Mobile prepaid plan, and their coverage where I lived always fell down to miserably slow standards.

Also got an AT&T prepaid plan for $50 per month, and it works great, but 250 minutes (which is fine for me) and 1Gb of data per month (which isn't so fine with me).

Love to hear the alternatives, I've got no loyalty at all to either of these scalpers.

You can buy the 99cent SIM activation kit online at t-mobile.com and then activate it online and get the $30 plan.

Exactly what jpr said; however, if you already had a T-Mobile plan, you won't qualify for the special $30. plan. It sounds like you have the same lack of T-Mobile coverage I have. I tried it for a month, and it was non-existent in my house and only slightly better outside. I went with AT&T through Straight Talk. I don't worry about the data because 2GB a month works for me. I have gone over that supposed 100MB a day limit with not problems. I use wifi calling (Google Voice and Talkatone) in my house as reception is still low inside, but I do get some through AT&T. I seem to be in a Verizon zone (had Sprint for over 12 years but signal was becoming non-existent from them and even with a great signal, high speed really doesn't exist on their networks anywhere near me). We all know that the Galaxy Nexus has lousy signal reception hardware, but I like the phone enough to deal with it. I paid the full $400. from Google for my phone and don't regret it (bought two!). There may be one more purchase after the end of a Sprint contract in October.
