Very true. I don't have JOD, just JUMP(once a year) which is something that you can do at some other carriers. I can actually understand a down payment for JOD because, as you said, they we're losing money on it. But these down payments for just "regular" upgrades are inexcusable when none of their competitors are charging them.
Although there are plenty of examples of them losing money with JOD, that isn't necessarily true. It really depends on how often people upgrade, there's no discount on the phone cost. There's just no down payment and the phone is leased for 18 months, at least that's how it use to work. My biggest issue with the down payment is it should ultimately be up to me what I'm comfortable paying every month. Their responsibility ends when they determine my credit worthiness. Good credit should have the option of putting nothing down, plain and simple. If I want to pay $50 a month it should not bother them one bit.
