It's actually very true. Other than tell me every app I download is safe, I never really see any benefit. Especially as I stay away from risky things on my phone. I only ever used it because it came on the phone and premium was free. Might give it some more thought and uninstall as well. For sure the app McAfee for TMobile was installed on my phone. I certainly didn't install it. Never liked McAfee but since Intel now owns them, figured maybe its improved.....?
I contact TMo on this. The reply I got was for me to continue using Lookout with my grandfathered original JUMP. I'm actually thinking of flying naked since in 4 years with Android, Lookout has never done anything other than remind me its there. The only reason I've kept it is because of the lost phone protection. Then again both Samsung and Google offer those services (and I've setup both). Thoughts?
Reading thru these posts I must say I'm surprised how many of you guys use the "smart switch" to transfer from a previous phone. I figured we were mainly all techies here and knew a fresh install is much more recommended especially when switching to a different phone model.
I never understood why T-Mobile makes us pay for a new SIM every time we upgrade. I bought my T-Mobile S9+ from Samsung directly and they included a T-Mobile SIM for free.
I purchased a S9 & a S9 Plus directly from T-Mobile & the sim cards were in the boxes. I didn't pay for them. The attached pic from a T-Mobile support page shows that a retail T-Mobile phone comes with a sim. Is it different using JOD?

Dunno. Every time I've bought a phone through them, they tack on $25 or something for a SIM card. I actually had a S9+ in my T-Mobile cart alongside the Samsung cart and they had a charge for the SIM on there.
When you got it through Samsung, did you pay a down payment? The down payment is half the reason I returned mine and kept my Note 8. The other half is because I still like my Note 8 (lol)Well that's certainly strange... & unfair. That could really add up if you were a long time customer. I'm glad you were able to get your S9+ from Samsung. That's 25.00 you can use for accessories.

Ok good - so Samsung didn't ask for a down payment the way the carrier didI got the Samsung financing and I was able to finance the balanced. Though, I expect to pay it off quickly.

It is an activation fee. Plain and simple. They just decided to change the name and pretend it isn't that but .. it is.
Pretty much. But lame either way. I have a bunch of SIM cards in a drawer at home...
I have always been successful in having that fee waived by a manager and/or customer care because I tell them I have a stack of SIM cards to use instead of being wasteful and buying another.Yeah that is why it is an upgrade / activation fee. The other carriers call them upgrade fees now which do somewhat line up more with the actual fee charge since they do only charge it when upgrading. T-Mobile calling it a SIM fee is odd since most customers will be like you -- "Why can't I use my old SIM?" .. The answer is you can but mine as well use the new one they force you to buy.

I always do a fresh install, most of my data, photos and music are in the cloud so it's not a big deal for me to do a fresh install. Just have to install the apps and if you are using launcher like Nova you can just back up the home screen layout and import it after the fresh install if you don't want to set up the home screen again.Reading thru these posts I must say I'm surprised how many of you guys use the "smart switch" to transfer from a previous phone.
