T-Mobile HSPA+ getting slower and slower for anyone else?

I cant help but to wonder if its because the Nexus can pick up the 1900mhz spectrum where as other TMO branded devices go to the 1700mhz spectrum.
TMO does have the bulk of its spectrum / speed in the 1700mhz band and only recently opened up the 1900 for iPhone and unlocked ATT devices. THe 1900mhz stuff has less thru put at least it did in Dallas when i was doing some testing using TMO vs ATT phones. I always got superior speeds on my TMO devices then i did with my ATT devices.
I cant help but to think if you guys had the ability to test with a TMO GS3, or One S, or GS2, or other TMO branded devices that excluded the 1900mhz spectrum how the testing results might come out.

After 3 months of horribly degraded speeds, I finally saw what I believe to be the cause: LTE has shown up on my Nexus 4 each of the past 2 nights. It doesn't persist for very long and the signal is weak (even dropping to E or none at all) but that has to be the reason that I went from seeing 25 Mbps down to 0.2 Mbps down.

I felt like a huge chump this weekend when a friend was showing off T-Mobile's LTE network on his iphony5. I didn't have the heart to say my Nexus 4 was neutered.

Ugh that sucks. Hopefully it gets better...because I don't wanna got AT&T.

great... just picked up an N4 and will be activating on the $30 plan tonight... is this happening to everyone? Or has this been a NYC thing? Unfortunately I picked this up not worrying about LTE b/c i heard HSPA+ in manhattan was fast... starting to get worried here.

It depends on what you want to do. 2 Mbps is plenty fast for tasks such as checking email, browsing, syncing Evernote and listening to Pandora. I don't have any interest in watching video on a telephone, so I can't comment about whether TMO is fast enough for that. But personally I find HSPA fast enough. If TMO wants to give me HSPA+, great, but the lack of it won't make me consider churning.

YMMV

So got the phone last night. To answer the question, basically I want to be able to stream some hi def sports events from time to time.

Checking speeds this morn (730 to 8 am) I'm getting anywhere from 2 to 15 Mbps in mid town. I'll be checking throughout the day. So far so good.

ok so im having major data problems on t-mo in midtown. morning was great. now i barely have a signal. the status symbol (the bars w/ the little "H") keeps going grey and I cannot consistently load webpages.

I ran into that a couple of times in Dallas as well. My Nexus 4 would sometimes go from blue signal bars to grey.
I read on other threads its a bug. Or its switching from one freq band to another. But when it happens they recomended going to airplane mode and then back to normal. Or a power cycle.
But its only related to the nexus 4 units and not others.

I don't know where everyone on this thread went, but on my 2nd day w/ tmobile in NYC, the phone is unusable... data speeds are so slow that normal web pages will not load.

If this persists im not even sure what to do... my only other choice would be to go at&t and their 'slower' hspa+... this really sucks.

email the CEO: john.legere@t-mobile.com Do it, and also call TMobile (dial 611 on your phone) and let them know. The only way this will be fixed is if we all complain.

To everyone having seeing slower speeds, please contact TMobile and let them know about it! If more people start complaining, they *might* do something (they also might not), but if you don't say anything, they definitely won't do anything becuase they won't know anything's wrong.

How to contact TMobile: Dial 611 on your phone (Does not count against minutes)

You can also go here: Contact TMobile

I've also been told by T-Mobile to fill this form out:

T-Mobile TakeAction - Stay Informed

They use location statistics to help figure out where to spend their money.

I've gotten no spam email yet, either, and I registered back in May.

Welcome to being in a major metropolitan area with a network under heavy load. All of the service providers have that issue in New York. Verizon LTE can slow to EVDO speeds. Att will be pretty awful too. (We won't even talk about sprint)

I have the same issue with HSPA+ here in Hawaii. I used to get great speed's. I would use LTE but as soon as I step into my house I am on 1 bar of LTE and back and fourth from HSPA+.

T-Mobile really need's to put up allot more towers and boost the signal from the towers they already have up. It's so in and out. I can have 3 bar's of LTE walk a few feet and drop LTE.

I'm not sure what T-Mobile plans to do but if they are not going to make there LTE usable they need to bring HSPA+ back to the way it was. I used to get about 12mpbs down and 2mbps up in my house now I go outside and I cant even get 1mbps down and the upload is just dead.

T-Mobile make's so much money, it make's no sense to me at all why they wouldn't try to make there network better by adding little towers all around the dead area's. They don't have to add huge super towers but at least add in small towers in the dead area's so there LTE isn't so iffy. In the mean time they can try bringing there HSPA+ back up to a usable speed as well.

As far as LTE here in Hawaii on Oahu LTE is not usable unless you are outside and happen to be in the line of sight. Now that HSPA+ is also unusable due to the network being so slow. I'm pretty much out of luck with T-Mobile.

You can go to XDA & figure out how to get LTE on your N4 it is on in NYC according to the LTE thread.

Probably not. On AT&T I am getting only 1 Mbps download no matter where I drive. I really need AT&T for its good phone coverage, so I just use wifi if I need speed.

Is there a way to force the Nexus 4 to only use the 1700mhz band?

That's not it. For an entire year (prior to the tower switching) I was able to average 18+mbps in NYC on TMobile. Now I'm lucky to get 1mbps.
